Lee,
Video Essentials and/or Avia Guide to Home Theater will help you in calibrating both sound and video. They can be purchased just about anywhere. Do a search in Amazon for more info.
F. Alton Everest's book is titled Master Handbook of Acoustics. Another very good book is called Home Theater for Everone by Robert Harley - editor of The Perfect Vision.
Jimmy,
Brad is correct - the 40" Sony is a 4:3 aspect ratio TV. They do however, make a 34" widescreen(KW-34XBR2HD)that lists for $3999 although I'm sure you can find it discounted in many places. The matching stand lists for $399. This set has an integrated HD tuner which will allow you to...
Deborah,
The November/December issue of The Perfect Vision has a review of the 40XBR700 that you may want to read. Don't know if the magazine is out on newstands yet or not but they gave a very positive review on the TV.
Everything that I have read states to hold the SPL meter at ear level from the listening position and point it towards the front wall and ceiling intersection, as has been stated by others in this thread. This is what I have done and the results were very good.
I am trying to decide between the Sony XBR6510W and the 65XBR2. I've read about the banding issues on the XBR6510W and have read a lot of positive reviews on the XBR2.
I can get the XBR10W from my dealer at $3900. Couple that with Sony's current $500 dollar rebate and the net price is...
John,
I would rely on your own judgment. Have you looked at both sets? Which did YOU feel was better? Regardless of the set you choose, you will find those who love it and those who hate it. You are the one who will be watching it everyday - if it satisfies your viewing tastes, then go with...
Robin,
Check out this link. It provides the bulb life on the 10HT for various users of the projector:

Joe,
Just curious...are you standing or sitting when you evaluate the pics on the RPTV's? If you are standing, then the picture will look dark and washed out. You need to be at eye level with the TV to see it correctly. I agree with Kevin - I have a 41" RPTV and have sat as close as 7' and...
Craig,
Where is Jamison? I got my Paradigm's at an excellent price at a place in Morgantown, WV. It's about 75 minutes from PGH. If that is closer for you, drop me an email and I'll give you the name of the store and owner and you can check his prices. May save you a trip to Canada.
I have a large area rug I'm not using and thought it may provide some absorption behind the TV on the front wall of my HT. Question is, what is the best way to hang it. Don't really want to put nails through the rug. Any ideas?
Thanks for the info guys. I already have my eye on the Sharp Z9000...can't wait to check that one out! I also looked into the Yamaha and some folks have said that it still has problems with rainbows - would still like to check it out as well. I've thought about the Sony 10HT but there are...
I'm looking to purchase a Front Projection and plan on spending up to $10K exclusive of the screen. I'm interested in DLP or LCD mostly due to low maintenance and setup issues. Room size is 9' x 18' and I would like a screen somewhere around 100" diagonal with 16:9 aspect ratio. I'm mostly...
Ron,
I think the mock-up is probably a good idea. I did the same with a rear projection I was considering. I didn't feel the need to build a three-dimensional mock-up but just built the footprint which was the largest part of the set I was considering. This will give you somewhat of an idea...
