Well they SURELY will not have been ear-marked for Europe! Goods sold in Europe must be CE-approved, be equipped for 230 Volts, different FM 'steps,' and have different AC plugs.
I would guess the best bet is a keen eye - and having watched CSI a few times;)
You - and others - might try to find DVD players meant for sale in Europe - most will play Region 1 and Region 2 with either no hack or easy hack. The transformers on most are supposedly 220V - but are set up to also work with 110V WITHOUT any modification! (and even if it wouldn't be - a...
Marvin: No - the stuff on link you mention seems to be some kind of 'solvent' - a method I would be quite afraid of - plastics (vinyl) can be TERRIBLY sensitive to solvents - as they themselves are composed of at least one solvent - and interactions much too possible. The stuff we had was...
Best stuff we ever sold was a kind of 'liquid glue' you spread on one side at a time - let it dry an hour or two - and then peeled off. Certainly didn't fix any scratches - but sure pulled off gunk and dirt like crazy! I recall it was made in Sweden - anything like that available today?
Forced trailers MEANS they are 'forced' - one CANNOT fast-forward thru them or skip them. And they are abominable. IMO even 'voluntary' ones should be put separately on the menu.

(Sorry - checked - this is just R2 but not necessarily including French - but leaving this post as someone else may be looking for R2 at good price)
Many thanks AB - very useful But does anyone know what has happened to SMR and their 'upkeep' of that list? Is there any 'published' website that is keeping track of these and also listing upcoming releases?
SMR had been keeping a list of Dolby EX films:
http://www.smr-home-theatre.org/surroundex/
This list would seem to be now pretty much out-of-date (either that or Dolby EX is now out-of-date :D ).
Is there a link where 'new' releases can be found?
Well I myself have heard of some players that are new and still do not play CD's - and have these clicks - continuous - and are in the $100-200 range - eg Apex.
Sorry - it seems I wasn't very clear.
I would assume that any commercial enterprise using 'proprietary' formats - such as DVD, DD, DTS, etc. would HAVE to pay the owners of that technology - or come to some kind of agreement with them for using that technology.
I don't believe they can just...
Wouldn't it be that the decoding of a DVD format is illegal regardless of the appearance of a DVD logo on the equipmwnr - and Dolby/DTS etc. - but of course the DVD logo makes the illegallity blindly more than OBVIOUS if licensing fees have not been paid - ! - ?
I can understand a factory not following 'standards' and thus widening their market - as per the 'region-free' production that EH mentions. But what 'advantage' accrues to Apex by producing DVD players that will not play DVD discs that the disc itself says should play on ALL DVD players -...
Yeah Larry - but they surely KNOW!!!! all the science of that 'break-in' - all the parameters - all the measurement differences - the EXACT amount of time it will take etc. Wanna bet they DON'T and don't give a good GD? (mostly because I'm assuming their views of break-in belong to the same...
The pre-amp could be used for its tuner and/or RIAA (LP) input to a multi-channel pre-pro or a receiver (without an RIAA pre-amp)
The power amp can always be used for 1-2 channels of a multi-channel system - soon they'll be up to 15.1 so you've got 1-2 channels of that ready.

I appreciate the detour presented by my question about break-in - but it was being suggested that the 'hiss' should not be judged until the unit 'broken in.'
I, unfortunately, am more aware of the totally confrontational threads developed over cables, etc. I DO NOT WANT TO GO THERE! -...
Because of the references to 'break-in' here I wonder if 'there's an EE in the house' that could offer the hypothetical electronic processes whereby electronic devices change their audio characteristics over hours and/or days?
Please - I am NOT asking if there is anyone that necessarily...
'Apologies' for joining the discussion as it regards 'personalities' - but there's no thread on such :-) (THANK GOODNESS - we'd all be banned)
I know this is the Rotel thread - but somehow this was the only place to comment.
John can be termed 'rambunctious' - and certainly had my respect - if maybe for BEING rambunctious :-) - I never took any of his 'overdrive' with any malevolent intentions.
But Razvan went out of his way to disrupt and aggravate - and EVEN STATED THOSE WERE HIS AIMS -- EXPLICITLY!!
God knows...
Methinks that all the old material is NOT lost - it's just not accessible via thread subjects etc.
You've got to use 'search'
Put 'John Morris' in as 'user name' and you'll get a bundle load

You've just got to keep trying - narrowing down...
The players CERTAINLY don't require any 'cleaning!' What can happen over time - years - is that the laser beam will not be in its original alignment. By that time, there are usually other reasons to dump the player - but theoretically re-alignment could help.
But as for discs, it does often...
I certainly can understand the Blue Laser development is also a software issue but I do wonder why 'Blue Laser' hardware related matters are not handled in a thread(s) on this forum?
There are a lot of things to be brought up that would not seem to be software related except of course hardware...
Here's the link to the downfall of Nakamichi
http://www.tvinsite.com/twice/index....y=breakingNews
It will be noticed that the original Nakamichi was pretty much gone anyhow - it was just the brand name that was being sold and re-sold.
The low prices on Apex are not really surprising. There seem to be constant references to their being sued by tranpost companies (Hub) for unpaid freight bills and supposedly the courts have forced a liquidation.
They have had also a tremendous fiasco/catastrophe for the 7701 - a supposely'...
