Which app/database to organize your collection?

I used to use DVD Profiler, but when I checked, it looks like it hadn't been updated in a while. I have been using My Movies, but it does have its issues. The iPhone app is pretty good. It is speedy, easy to search, easy to add titles (barcode scanner), and easy to create custom filters. The...

Filing Films in Your Collection (when titles start with numbers)

The "My Movies" database/app, which I use to catalog my collection, does it strictly digit by digit, so 300 comes before The 39 Steps. I wonder how a library card catalog would handle this.

    AV Receiver advice

I see people actively avoiding the Denon 3700 in favor of the 3600 due to the 8k or 120Hz bug or whatever it is. Is there a reason to do this other than just getting a better deal on an older model? If you aren't gaming, is there any reason to avoid the 3700? Does the bug affect 4k blu ray watching?

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

Thanks for all of the advice. I ended up ordering a single Rythmik FV18 PC for now, and plan on getting a second one down the road. I ultimately chose the Rythmik over the PSA as it is cheaper and a little narrower, so despite the height, I find it easier to integrate into my room.

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

The PSA 2112 is $2200. How does it compare to the SVS PB-16 Ultra for only $300 more?

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

I got the MiniDSP and ran the EQ process. The curve looks better I guess. I am now strongly leaning to starting with a single 18" and upgrading to dual later. Options : Rythmik FV18 - so tall that it will hit the bottom of my TV. I am going to have to move it from in between the console and...

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

Ok thanks. How is that typically done? Through EQ? I will check if my receiver has an adjustable curve. If not, I guess MiniDSP?

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

Made a few tweaks and ran again. This time I selected L+R output. MACAAC tried to set my crossover to 150Hz, but I don't think my subs can play it. You can see in the first graph a massive drop. I moved it down to 100Hz (the next setting), and it looks better (second image). I also set my subs...

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

OK so I ran this, and my output looks like this. I really don't know if this is bad or not.

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

One issue I am concerned about is that some of the bass-heavy scenes can create a somewhat unpleasant pressure in my ears/head. If I get something much more powerful, I am concerned this will become worse.

I'm looking to upgrade my display TV I've been reading about lip sync issues.

You might have issues getting the best sound formats (Atmos and DTS:X) if you use an optical cable to send the sound to the receiver. I am not sure, but the eARC HDMI port on your TV might work to send audio to an HDMI input on the receiver. I have never tried this setup, so I cannot comment on...

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

The 4900 ft^3 includes the one other open space that has a roughly 9-10ft opening. This is all behind the main listening area. There is also a 3' wide hallway that I am not including. The main listening area is about 3900 ft^3. The basement is concrete, but there is sheetrock on the walls and...

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

I've been looking exclusively at ported, as this will be for home theater only, and that seems to be the recommendation. To get the output I need from sealed subs, it looks like I would have to spend considerably over my budget, as most recommendations say that, ideally, I should be looking at...

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

I haven't looked at that one. 2 of those still takes me over budget, but in the range of the dual PB-3000s. How does this sub compare to the PSA TV1512 or the HSU VTF-15?

Subwoofer Recommendations for 4900 cubic foot room

I am looking to upgrade my pair of Atlantic Technology PBM 350. These are 20+ years old, have a 12" driver, and a 200 watt built-in amp. I believe I paid $450 each. It looks like subwoofers have come a long way in the last 20 years, so I was looking to upgrade. I feel that these are only able to...

Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV Cube?

Never tried it, but I was curious if ARC worked for this even though I wasn't technically "returning" the audio but using it as straight audio out on the TV. But I do remember reading in multiple places that ARC doesn't support Atmos. My TV has eARC, but I believe my receiver (a 2018 model) only...

Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV Cube?

I am looking to get a streaming device that supports HBO Max (at a minimum) with Dolby Atmos. My Samsung tv has HBO Max, but I cannot get an Atmos signal out to my receiver. It looks like the Apple TV box or Amazon Cube are the best options, but I don’t have experience with either and am...

HBO Max HBO Max (Official Thread)

How is anyone listening to Dolby Atmos with HBO Max? I think my TV is the only device I have that can stream HBO Max, but I have no idea how I can get Atmos to my receiver. Is everyone using Apple TV or something else?

Looking to get a large 85"+ TV

I am currently looking to upgrade from a 75" Samsung LCD. I sit about 11 ft away from the screen in a room where I have total light control. My current contenders for TVs are Samsung Q90T (on sale for $3500), Sony X900H (supposed to be better than X950H in no light), and possibly a LG CX...

    Wall Framing

Not sound quality, but for building a home theater, the only thing I can think of is that it might be easier to hang a heavy TV (or whatever) on a wall framed with wood studs. Sheet metal screws into metal studs will probably not hold anything heavy. You can use toggle bolts, which will probably...

Dialogue too quiet, explosions too loud

I have an HT receiver and separate LCR (+surround) speakers and still sometimes have this problem. It depends on the source material. Even some newer stuff is hard. I watched V for Vendetta on Netflix the other day (not super new, but it was HD, so probably a recent port), and I had to crank...

Are speakers on a home theater system interchangeable

Do they still do dipoles for surround speakers? If so, you would never want to use these for LCR speakers, as they create a diffuse sound field that is really not suited to main channels.

    Harmony Remote Alternative

Sorry, but I can't think of a remote that is simpler than the Harmony (part of what makes it good). I also have a URC MX-890 for my family room, as it has RF capabilities for the components in a different room. This remote is not nearly as easy to use as the Harmony 950 (could just be that they...

    Sound system setup

I have a somewhat similar setup (and question that I just posted), but I did have issues with my Harmony One (probably 6-7 years old). The Harmony One did not seem to have a concept of the TV being the "control box" of the activity, like a cable box would. So I could get the setup right (right...

How should I be connecting my system?

I have owned HT components for a number of years now, but the newer setups (particularly ARC) have me confused about how exactly I should be wiring my stuff together. I have a newer (about 1.5 year old) 4k TV with an HDMI port labeled ARC. I also have a receiver (also with ARC port) and 4k...

    The Blacklist: Season 2

I thought I remember that they did do a DNA test on Red to confirm that he was not related to Liz. This was probably near the end of last season.

    The Blacklist Season 1

Yeah, I pretty much knew immediately too. Then he started telling that story in way too much detail. I also noticed the burn scars on Red's back, so he is involved in the fire in some way or the other. As for the link between Berlin and Red, it must have something to do with his daughter. We...

Breaking Bad - Season 5 (AMC)

I'm not exactly sure what was going on with Hank, Gomez and Jesse during that phone call with Walt. If they recorded it, they have Walt confessing to about 10 murders.
