Hi Evan, Thanks for the response. My L/C/R's are ACI Sapphire III LE's - a very smooth sounding speaker and not bright at all. If I was going with direct radiators then I would go with the ACI Emeralds. However, I want something more diffuse, such as a dipole or bipole. Both, Boston Acoustics...
Hi, I'm looking for opinions on the Boston Acoustics VR-MX surround speakers vs the Jamo 8SUR surround speaker. I know the VR-MX is a diffuse speaker, not really a dipole or bipole - depends how you orient the speakers you can get diffuse or direct. The Jamo is switchable between dipole...
jaydee,
Why not both a front firing and a down firing......all in the same box - M&K! I have an M&K MX-80 (dsicontinued), which has 2 12" drivers in a push-pull configuration. The dual drivers effectively doubles the amplifier power (3db gain). This configuration also reduces even order...
Matt, You say that you heard the Mirage bookshelf with the Omnisat technology. Do you know what size the front firing woofer is? How was the bass response (without sub)? I'm thinking of using the Omnisat bookshelf speakers as surround speakers - I have other speakers (non-Mirage) for the...
You guys with the QS-4's or QS-8's - please help me, if you will. I know the specs. for the QS-8's go down to only 95 Hz (+/- 3 db). Do you find that the bass is adequate? That's really my only concern. The Def Tech speakers go pretty low - I've been leaning towards the Def Techs for this...
Bill, When I was auditioning subs I mainly listened to music CDs that I brought with me. Of course it's very difficult to audition a sub at the stores because they're probably not setup to sound the best unless its a very high-end shop. I think most of them just plop 'em down where ever...
Hi, I'm in the market for surround speakers, preferably bipolar. What are your opinions of the Def. Tech. BP2X's? Do they have enough bass response? Would you consider them bright or warm? How is the envelopment of these speakers? Is there a big difference between the BP2X's and the BPX's -...
Hi Jason, I can't comment on the comparison between the Sapphires and the other speakers that you mention. Comparing them to my Infinity SM-110 floorstanding speakers, the Sapphires top end is not gritty and harsh, as is the case with the Infinity's. The Infinity's, when played loud (they do...
Ken, Another advantage, regardless of using the built in amp or an external amp is that you can insert an equalizer or high pass filters between the preamp and amp. Let's say that you don't care much for the receiver's built in bass management. You can insert for instance, an ICBM or even...
I never, ever thought it would happen to me! I read about it here and in Home Theater Magazine. I was refueling at a Mobile oasis on I-294, just outside of O'Hare airport when a white mini-van appeared out of no-where. "Hey, do you want a home theater" What? "Do you want a home theater, you...
Hi Tom,
You might also look at ACA - discussed heavily at Harmonic Discord. I think there's another popular pre-amp with H/T bypass over there. Here's the link: www.harmonicdiscord.com
I have an HK 520, but I may also be interested in an H/T bypass down the road. I'm going to live with the...
Thanks to you all for the valuable input. I nailed it down to the Sound Anchors or the Osiris. The Osiris looks nice and it appears to be built like a tank, plus it's cheaper. I'm going to see the Sound Anchors tonight at Audio Consultants. Thanks again, Greg
Tom, I don't think you want the pre-outs feeding the 2-channel pre-amp. The pre-outs are already "pre-amplified", so you may over-drive your 2-channel pre-amp, plus "contaminate" the sound with the H/T pre-amp. I believe you need a pre-amp with an H/T bypass. There's a lot of talk about...
I believe that the manual states that the speakers get a full range signal - not crossed over and that the subwoofer cross-over choices are 40 Hz and 60 Hz. Greg
Thanks John. I visited the ACI site and did look at what they had. Are the stands heavy and well built? The price seams reasonable. Do you know anything about the Sound Anchor stands - a little more pricey, I think? Thanks, Greg
Hi, I just received my HK AVR-520 and I will be using it with ACI Sapphire III LE speakers and an M&K MX-80 subwoofer. Seeing that I can't defeat the crossover in the subwoofer, the sub's crossover will have to be set to the maximun (150 Hz) and the 8O HZ crossover from the HK 520 will be...
Hi, I'm looking for any DVD players that allow for adjustment of the LFE channel. There's a thread in the Receiver/Amp forum discussing the inability of the HK AVR-520 or basically, any of the HK receivers to adjust the LFE level. Now, if we can do this in the DVD player, the problem may be...
I thought I read that the DTS LFE problem was on older discs that were erroneously recorded with the wrong LFE level. Is this still an issue on the newer discs? If not, when was the problem fixed. Thanks, Greg
Josh, How do you get the $231.89 credit at Onecall on the H/K 520? I went to the website and all I get is the 10% off promotion. I have not registered with them yet - first time visiting them. Onecall is an authorized H/K dealer - right? Thanks, Greg
kevitra, You posted the below response not too long ago. I also have ACI Sapphire III's for my mains and I'm looking for surrounds. Do you notice a mismatch between the Axioms and Sapphires - same level of brightness, etc.? Do you find them distracting at all, in other words, do they call...
Can anyone comment on the differences between the Quadpolars and other surround speakers? Any experience with Def Techs, Paradigm, PSB, etc.?
Would you say that they are at least as enveloping as the others, marginally better or a lot better?
Thanks,
Greg
Erik,
I'm currently looking for surround speakers.
Do you have experience with other surround speakers (Def Tech, PSB, etc.) and how does the Axioms compare to them.
Thanks,
Greg
