    Why the Black Bars?

Keep in mind that movies aren't in a standard aspect ratio, even in the theatre. Haven't you ever been at the theatre noticed the matting (border) being moved with motors between the trailers and the start of the movie? It caught me off guard the first time I saw that.

Seeing Red - will you stock up on the inevitable clearance sales on HD DVDs?

Not really. You put a DVD in, and the laser turns on to read it. It just turns the other one on instead. In fact, if you think about it, a dual format device like that could last even longer due to the read duty being split between two lasers when different formats are viewed. I've had my...

Official announcement for starting construction for my HT room!

Great thread! Thanks so much for posting your progress with pics. It looks fabulous! My wife and I just bought our first house. Unfortunately, there's no dedicated space for something like this. I've always wanted a home theatre room...maybe in the next house. So I'll just have to be happy...

Wall mounting a plasma set between wall unit sides

I'm interested in this too. I just picked up a 50" Plasma this weekend for the new house. I'm pretty sure I want to wall mount it for stability and safety. My wife is talking about getting a unit like you described - a hutch for below the TV to hold the components and tall vertical pieces on...

where do you guys get the cool demo discs?

There is...eBay at about $5 million a pop. Hehe I started bidding on a THX demo disk once, and stopped when it hit $90. Don't remember what it closed at, but it wasn't even remotely worth that to me. -S

    Buying DVDs on Ebay

I've bought exactly one DVD from eBay, and it was legit (Goldeneye when it went out of print). Definitally always check the seller rating. Even if they have 20 negative feedbacks, if they have 2000 sales then that's not way out of line in my opinion. However if someone has like 10 negatives...

Got Me a Projector, Now What About Connectors?

Just out of curiousity...has anybody ever heard of any kind of wireless solution to get from the receiver to the FP mounted on the ceiling? Looking at pricing for a good sized room it'd be like $4000 in component cables (ok, maybe not that much but might as well be. How about using some...

How does one become involved with making a dvd?

Thanks for the links Dan, I just ordered a copy. Kind of related, but not really: I've done some of my own DVD production at home. I've got a digital camcorder and a DVD burner in my computer. The first project I decided to attempt was to take the 5 digital tapes of my own wedding (that...

If Arnold wins, will his DVDs be pulled from circulation?

LOL Adam! Great quote. Yes Dennis...if you didn't pick up on it, he was the chain gun wielding badass in Predator. "I ain't got time to bleed."

A friend found The Rescuers at a Walmart here for me. The print appears to be fairly dirty though... :frowning:

Rehashing the "Band of Brothers" DVD talk

Excellent series! Glad you liked it too! Caught it first run on HBO, then the rerun 6 months later, then preordered the DVD set the day it was available. Simply incredible. I just about cried when Guarnere got taken out. His transition from a man filled with pain and anger to a brother that...

    Black Hawk Down: SE

Ok, so I picked this up today. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned MY gripe yet...and I haven't even put a disk in to try it. The very first thing I noticed when opening the digipack is...the clear plastic with all the artwork behind it...and the friggin black magnetic anti-theft sticker...

T2:Metal Case (Artisan to help in replacing cases)

Dan Fritzen- Install a freeware copy of Zone Alarm. Then try and "get the license", however that is. Zone Alarm blocks ALL outbound traffic and will tell you what port and what program is trying to get out. Write that down and uninstall Zone Alarm. Or, leave it installed for extra protection...

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - coming this fall!

My dad put these on audio tape when I was a kid. I listened to quite a few episodes on family vacations. I'll be getting them too! I always loved the episode where Starbuck was doing the long range recon thing and gets put in prison on some planet. Guilty pleasure time! Yet another...

    Hunt For Red October

Yeah well...I never said "friend" now, did I? Heh I don't feel bad about it, considering they're running their DVD player directly into a 27" TV...they don't even have Dolby Mono. :D

    Hunt For Red October

I don't think it's fair to compare HFRO to K-19. I feel that HFRO is an action/suspense movie, and K-19 is more drama and suspense. I liked HFRO much more than K-19, as movies go, which isn't surprising as K-19 was based on real life events. Regardless, I just sold my HFRO to someone at work...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: "DrumLine" (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) (with screenshots)

Awesome...I was in marching band in high school for 4 years. I played bass drum in the percussion section. I graduated 15 years ago and can still remember several halftime shows, road trips, playing at Expo 86 in Canada, marching in Santa Cruz, etc. What I loved the most was the very start...
