I was doing a search for dipole surrounds on the Circuit City website and polk audio looks like they have nice ones. I've never listened to polk audio speakers. Are they decent? Are they overpriced, reasonable, etc. How's Circuit city prices for this brand? Thanks,
John
After visiting Sears and checking out the dvd-ram recorder, I thought that it would be cool to record on dvd. But finding out they can't record hd programming is a drag. I'm wondering if d-vhs is gonna be the way to go. I sure would've liked to have a copy of Band of Brothers in hd.

So would you use the same style of back center channel speaker that we use for the center channel? Or can it be any direct speaker? I have 2 dipoles for the surround left and right. I'd like to know if I buy a reciever with only one center rear hookup that will be good enough or should I wait...
I've noticed that most recievers out now that support 6.1 have hook-ups for only one speaker for the back center channel. However some of the high end recievers allow you to hook up two rear center speakers. I realize it's still one channel, but what's the standard, 1 or 2 speakers?

I have a very big family room, the kitchen, dining, and living room are one room with no walls and vaulted ceilings. From where my sweetspot listening position is, I could mount the side surrounds 8ft up on the wall. The left speaker will be close, around 13ft, and the right surround will be 17...
I'm getting ready to mount my side surrounds and I want to pre-wire for the back surrounds while I'm in the attic.
I wanted to know what recievers allow you to hook up two speakers for the back center surround? Or is one center speaker all that is necessary?
I have a very wide living room...
I'm late writing this but I watched it last night, and thought it looked great at times, but at some points it would get pixelated during motion and I'd get sound dropouts from the Cincinnati feed. Anyone else experience this in your area? By the way my signal strength was 90+ and I'm close to...
Anthony,
All you need to pick up hdnet and hbohd is an elliptical dish with a hd/stb. I got my stb for 450.00 online,(dst-3000). I had the elliptical dish installed last year so I'm not sure on a price for those. hdnet and hbo are free, well if you subscribe to hbo, you'll get hbohd...
I found this from another site so I'll paste it.

Room Color
Neutral gray is not a favorite color of interior decorators, but it is the color specified in AVS and VE for proper video monitoring. One well-designed telecine...
O.K, so can a good correct bulb be bought at Lowe's or Home Depot, or can it be found only online? Any recommendations on company bulbs carried at these stores?
Also is the correct location placed on the floor behind an rptv so the light is directed at the back wall?

I was just wondering why Sony is being left in the dust compared to Mitsubishi, Toshiba, etc.. as far as getting hdtv sets out there and in different size options, which they've been doing so for quite some time now. I just now notice a couple sets out there from Sony, which actually I've only...
Hi Chris. Your set looks so much better visually now that it's black. I had the 50h81 and the gray border around the screen was a distraction. I also had some other problems with it so I bought the mits 55809, which has a nice black frame.
I might have to remove the screen now!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a few good remotes, any opinions on Marantz, Sony , RCA. Touch screen good?,etc...
These are my remotes:

Panansonic RP-56 Remote
Sony VCR Remote
Toshiba DST-3000 Remote
Mitsubishi 55809 Remote

Oh my, I had the great pleasure of watching part 9 in hd and 5.1 sound. I missed part 8 in hd by one day, my stb and 50h81 came in on monday
Having watched this series has been great and I can't believe only 1 espisode is left. Being a former infantryman(11bravo) in the 10th Mountain...
Well after finally hooking up my 50h81 and all my components on the open rack by techcraft, I need to figure out how to hide/organize the spagetti wires. Having hardwood floors is making this task daunting to say the least. Also, getting the repetitive questions coming from the wife asking,"are...
Hi. I've got the bow-tie from Radio Shack which pulls analog stations from Lexington,Ky, which is about 25 miles from my house. I couldn't get digital channels from Cincinnati which is wierd because my other antenna in the bedroom gets analog channels from cincy, so I'll be up on the roof with...
Hi. O.K I've got a sony str-de845. Looks like I can adjust crossover frequency in 30hz steps from 60hz-180hz. Inital settings are 120hz for all speakers. Does this sound right?
Also it has a sub level adjustment from -10 to +10db, initial setting is 0db.(Will I want to make volume adjustments...
85db reference level is great if your in a big theater, but when your 10ft away it's not realistic. What would be more practical? 70db,60db,50db? I'd like to read what other users set their levels at and what distance away from the speaker placement.
I'm about 10ft away from the mains and sub...
Thank You Guy, that has been very informative. I have turned my crossover all the way up. I just got Avia and need to head to Radio Shack to get the spl meter. My phase has two settings: normal and reverse, it's on normal for now, and the volume is about 1/3 up.
The strange thing is my...
I'm wondering where do I put my crossover level for the sub? I've got all my speakers set to small. And how about the volume level? Do I need a spl meter to get it to a certain db?
John
I could be wrong but the way things seem to be going 720p is dying a slow death...1080i is alive and well. I don't know why that is, but 480p looks good to me
John
Congrats on your purchase, I'm just a few days ahead of you. I got an hdtv(toshiba) and the rp56. I was used to my rca 5 disc dvd non-progressive changer before, but I believe the rp56 is absolutely stunning on an hdtv.
Just pop in Episode I, and watch the pod race, I couldn't believe how rich...
I've been looking at stb prices on the internet and this is the best I can find so far. Toshiba dst-3000 for 568.94. RCA's dtc-100 was 483.94,+93.93 for the converter to fit on toshiba hdtv's. Any lower prices out there?
Johnny ty
Hey, well my first attempt at Sears in Lexington, KY, failed. I brought in a copy of simplycheap.com for a toshiba 50h81 priced at 1979.95. I told the salesperson I'd buy the tv today if they matched this price.
He told me they are now only allowed to match prices from a select list of...
Hi. O.K, I've decided to get the 50h81 at Sears over the weekend and hope they will do the internet price match. My wife and I watch mostly directv and dvd. She's a news junkie,(I'll have to explain to her about burn in from logos), and all I watch are movies,(and most recently Band of...
