Large Salamander Synergy furniture system for sale in northern NJ

We're remodeling and this furniture is going to be left homeless. Hoping to find a good home for it, asking $999 for the whole lot. Salamander Synergy wall unit, cherry with black posts, excellent condition. It’s shown configured for my old projection TV, but the bridge shelves can be...

Movies that are too weird for their own good.

"The Dark Backwards" I chanced upon this on TV one day, and watched for a while in dumb fascination until I just couldn't take it anymore. Some people seem to like it, judging by its IMDB listing, but for me it was just one big pile of pointless and gross weirdness.

Who Will Be The Next Bond?

I like Hugh Jackman best of all I've heard so far. Jeremy Northam would be good as well, though I haven't seem him do action before, to my recollection. Overall, I've been very pleased with Brosnan (less so the movies). I think he's clearly the second best Bond next to The Man.

    Crummiest INITIAL sequels?

Anyone mention "Jewel of the Nile" yet? Grease 2 and Staying Alive are good ones too, though Grease 2 does have its adherents (not me!) Superman 2, on the other hand, was my favorite of the lot. Internal logic be damned, it had tons of great plot turns. Also disagree on MIIB. Sure it...

    24: Season 2 - Hour 24 - 5/20/03 Finale

Given the short time period covered by the show, it's only reasonable that some storylines are not resolved. Lynne is presumably in the ICU. Maybe she'll be back next season, but I wouldn't imagine a big role for her, since she should be in the hospital. By the way, since Jack's "Matrix move"...

    The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

Maybe we'll have to wait for the DVD. I wonder mainly because it might be an amusing line, especially since it was immediately followed by the "wiping your ass with silk" comment. :)

    The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

I'm starting to wonder about the title of the third movie. "Reloaded" sounded just like a lame sequel title until it turned out to be completely descriptive of the main plot point of the movie. So what might "Revolutions" mean? I'm especially curious at its being plural. Hmm. Also, still...

    The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

I loved the movie (and am a borderline Matrix cultist), but tend to agree with Paul that the rave scene could have been better handled. It didn't really bother me too much during the movie, but it certainly didn't have much of a positive effect either. As far as the Neo/Trinity sex scene: I...

    The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

This thread is nuts, and I'm loving it. Thoughts: 1) the screens in the Architect's room showed various inner thought processes of Neo, not previous One's. I thought it was hysterical when all the screens where screaming and swearing, I know at least one was giving the finger; it'll...

Apple sells more than 1 million songs

Jobs said it during his presentation. I can't seem to find a direct quote, but it is indirectly quoted on several sites which covered the event, including The Register:

What do you think is the best music video?

Among new videos (which I hardly ever see any more), I'm enthralled with the Queens of the Stone Age video for "Go with the Flow". The visuals are unique, and executed with amazing style. "Take on Me" was of course a classic, and a great song as well.

Apple sells more than 1 million songs

Some comments on all this stuff. First, regarding the notion that Apple's new service signals that MP3's (well, AAC in Apple's case) are the future: This has already been well-established, as far as I'm concerned. Apple didn't just suddenly invent the concept. Their goal is simply to...

    Progressive scan/multi-disc players?

Any reason the Panny CP-72 is not included in your list? It's got superb progressive video output, and DVD audio as well. Changer performance is fine, though a bit slow to initially load a disc. Will do random play across all five disks. All in all a fine player.

    The Ralph Wiggum Appreciation Thread

Let's face it: almost everything Ralph says is funny, maybe moreso than any other SImpsons character. They generally don't give him any lines unless they've got something good. When he said "I made Bart in my pants" I almost made in mine...

Best shows NEVER to be given a shot :(

I thought at the time Max Headroom was just about the best Sci-Fi I had seen on TV. I still have it as a wish list item on my Tivo just in case some channel starts showing the episodes. I can understand why it didn't last, though. Somehow the ads for Sports Night never made me want to watch...

    24: Season 2 - Hour 13 - 2/18/03

I was glued for most of the episode, as usual. I mean, we already knew Sherry was involved somehow, but it was still cool seeing Palmer learn about it. The whole NSA-engineered nuke plot... whatever, it gives them all something to do. Realism was never the idea here, just intense action...

The Song I Desire To Hear Most In Hi-rez Multichannel Is:

"The Camera Eye", by Rush. All of Moving Pictures would be potentially spectacular. I'd also like to see Leftoverture by Kansas, but not holding my breath for that one. Looking forward to the release of "Close to the Edge"....

    sony 655

I do not have much (er, any) direct experience with the Sony, but I chose the CP-72 over it for a few reasons (in no particular order): 1) No chroma bug 2) better de-interlacing 3) DVD-A capability (almost a freebee given the cost of this player.) 4) sharper picture, at least according to...

Donald Fagen' "The Nightfly" on DVD-Audio

Fabulous, thanks for the info. This is gonna be my first DVD-A disc, the one that motivates me to actually go hook up the analog outs from my CP-72. I can't wait for next Tuesday...

Pat Matheny - Imaginary Day DVD-A?

Can anyone comment on the quality of the DVD-Audio recording of Imaginary Day vs. the CD? I'm mainly curious about the surround mix. I have the CD and love it, and it seems like it would have good possibilities for a surround mix, but ya never know. Thanks...

Donald Fagen' "The Nightfly" on DVD-Audio

God, I was *so* hoping this was going to be an early review of the disk. I'm eager to know if they do something intelligent with the surround mix. Oh well, I'm probably buying it either way. It'll be interesting to hear how much the limitations of the master constrain how good the sound of...

Should I retire my Toshiba SD-6200 DVD?

It's a fine player if the following all hold true: 1) you have either a widescreen TV or standard set with a proper squeeze mode. The 4:3 downconversion algorithm in the Toshiba is poor, resulting in a lot of artifacts when the DVD player performs the letterboxing. Not an issue with...

    I don't understand ... Panasonic RP82 vs. CP72

Some find coaxial to sound better, and prefer it to optical. I'm not arguing whether that's true (a religious argument that has been beaten to death already) but some do prefer coax. I think the RP-82 also has a "remastering" feature that the CP-72 lacks. As I own the latter and not the...

DVD Player with progressive scan and Component Video out

Just to add, while component video can be either interlaced or progressive, it is the *only* common interface that handles progressive. So once you've got a progressive DVD player, component video is implied (other than possibly certain exotic exceptions.) As said above, if you've got a TV...

DVD players. Why so many technical issues?

I dunno, the latest round of players seems pretty solid from all I can gather. My CP-72 has been great so far, though I haven't exercised it enough to know that it will reliably read all discs in the universe. I would venture to say that most folks with the newest players are enjoying...
