My good friend Bill Huelbig has already preordered this for me as an early birthday present. I first saw it on VHS thanks to him... gosh, I guess it's been 30 years ago now. A wonderful film.
And that cover is breathtaking!
You're under no obligation to "get" my opinions about anything.
This has nothing to do with the fact that I already own the existing Blu-rays of both titles. I have no issue with Paramount releasing WAR OF THE WORLDS on UHD, nor do I have an issue with them releasing WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE...
Dumb. Just... dumb. I've got both the Criterion *and* the Imprint editions of WAR OF THE WORLDS, and the Imprint WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE (which was sourced from a 4K scan, so a UHD was totally doable). I've gotta draw the line someplace. No sale.
Just to clarify---- my plastic sleeves are just resting between the cardboard book pages, not in the disc slots. If it weren't for the outer box, they'd fall right out.
I *really* wish I'd just started buying the individual releases when volume 1 came out. Sure, they take up more room, but...
My TROUBLE WITH HARRY UHD disc arrived with a couple of ugly scratches, but it seems to play without issue. SABOTEUR was stuck inside the cardboard sleeve thanks to some overzealous gluing (but the disc ultimately cleaned up just fine after being liberated). The first thing I did (which is the...
In terms of image quality, the Blu-ray represents a significant improvement over the DVD. For fans of the show, that alone should merit an upgrade. The supplements are just icing on the cake.
Having seen the masters for season 1, I can tell you that the Blu-rays essentially mirror the DVDs in terms of format (meaning no bumpers or Four-in-One intros... I mean, unless something dramatically changed in the last few months, but I'd be surprised as hell). In terms of image quality, they...
My replacement discs arrived a few days ago. Yesterday I checked both the Blu-ray and the UHD for the original mono track.... and I can confirm that both discs do in fact contain the original mono.
You may be right. However, Eureka has done some stellar work (their recent MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE/THE BLACK CAT/THE RAVEN set is wonderful), and before Indicator came along they were the closest thing to Criterion-level excellence in the UK. I trust them WAY more than I'd ever trust Mill...
I'd be surprised if Mill Creek does anything about this (their new Hammer mega-set repurposes the same outdated transfers from their previous releases, after all). I'm cautiously optimistic that Eureka's effort will be superior.
Definitely a step up from the DVDs, based on a quick A/B comparison. I honestly can't tell if these are new scans or simply upconverts, but the Blu-ray definitely looks (and sounds) better.
I just now received a notification that Amazon has shipped my copy (the US edition), and that I'll have it tomorrow. We'll see. After all the delays, I need to see it with my own eyes before I'll believe it.
My copy arrived today. Ugh. It wouldn't be a Universal Hitchcock release without some problems, right? First off, the PSYCHO mono track definitely is NOT the original mono (as others have suspected/reported). There are two dead giveaways: In the first scene, right after Marion says "Oh, we can...
I'd love to say I'll hold out for a lower price... but c'mon---It's AMAZON WOMEN ON THE MOON. I just bought THE KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE on Blu-ray last week in preparation for this (I've had both on DVD forever now)... I'm not gonna be able to wait. It'll be mine on release day regardless of price.
In an age where some of us are now upgrading from Blu-ray to 4K/UHD, why would we be satisfied with DVD? Last time I checked, this is a Home Theater Forum, where the goal is to see films in the highest possible quality.
Given that your set came out in 2015, I have to assume it contains the same transfers found on the earlier domestic Blu-rays. JASON is in a different Harryhausen boxed set from Indicator, but sadly it's the same exact disc as the earlier release. The indicator editions of the Sinbad films are...
Thanks, Robert. That kinda crystallizes it a bit for me. I'm intrigued by the CX's Filmmaker Mode, but my (admittedly less than comprehensive) research suggests that I can get something close to it with the C9... or did I arrive at that conclusion in error?
I've had my eye on the C9 at Costco for a while, but I've held off in hopes that they'd drop a bit lower than $2,149.00. The cheapest 65" CX I've found is $2,499.00 at a local retailer, but most places are selling it for $2,799.00. It doesn't sound like the CX is *that* much better than the C9...
