I am currently building a new house and part of that house is a 12x14 home theater room. I have a very modest home theater right now and I would like to build the room (walls are up and that's it...not even any wiring yet) with future upgrades in mind (since I will not have much extra money for...
I have an Integra 5.2 receiver and it's essentially the same as an Onkyo 595. I have had no dropouts in DD5.1 on Pearl Harbour, Disneys Atlantis or Jurassic Park 3. I have a Pioneer DV440 DVD player and I'm also wondering if different DVD Player/Receiver interactions are a factor in this problem.
I have had very good luck with:

As for the color of your receiver matching your DVD player....I'm afraid you will have trouble. The Onkyo has a green display. I have an Integra 5.2 which is essentially similar to the 595 but has blue display. Some of the pioneers have a blue display as well.
You should not call the 595 a...
Well, I have a DV440 on order (going to return my DV-343). It plays VCD's well, does MP3 well and also doesn't have that annoying 4 second skip that pioneer has used for fastforward/RW. Also, music CD's are supposed to sound quite good with this unit.
:frowning:
Is it just me or do all those presents under the X-mas tree look a little less inviting now? To top it off the winner already has an SVS. Maybe Jerry 3 should have a contest to see who wins his "old" SVS.
The Integra 5.2 is a very nice receiver....and it's cool looking besides. It has plenty of power! I'm running PSB and Axiom speakers/Sub and my wife is constantly telling me to turn it down.
The biggest thing is the lack of pre-outs. If this isn't an issue then it's a great receiver.
Actually, I have an Integra 5.2 which is similar to the 595. The remotes are the same only mine is backlit (595's isn't). The remote is actually very capable. I have mine set up to run my Sony TV, Sony hi-fi VCR, Pioneer DVD player, Sony CD-player, Starchoice Satellite system(I'm in Canada)...
Prologic 2 is much superior to regular Prologic for 2 channel source. It works esp. well with material that was designed with Dolby surround in mind.
For music, it varies. Some music sounds terrific, Sara McLauchlin's Remix is incredible....you even hear her singing behind you at...
Have you tried some of the online Canadian stores?
Try www.audioexpress.com (email them for current pricing). I bought my Integra receiver there...saved a bundle.
Whoops....as someone pointed out...I meant Link Removed
Sorry
Maybe these guys work for or know people who work a t video rental outlets. They actually get the movies on Friday. Today I watched from the other side of the counter as a guy laminated Pearl Harbour DVD's.....Made me itch just watching him!!!
To clear things up for the Onkyo:
The first receivers to use DPLII had no adjustments: 494; 595; 696; Integra 5.2; 6.2
The latest models have these adjustments: 797; 898; Integra 8.2 (7.2 when it arrives)
Well, I've been happy with my new little 10" Axiom EP-175 sub with it's cool aluminum driver(www.axiomaudio.com) it's great for music....but today we went to costco and I see that they have a new version of the D-box sub there for $299 Canadian. www.d-box.com (david 302)
It has a 12" driver...
They can be higher....so can Denon. I think in Denon's case it's due to the fact that there is no Canada based distributer. There are some better deals out there. I purchased a new Integra 5.2 receiver for $850 inc. tax!

Why not try another Canadian built speaker...I have an Axiom sub (ep-175) and it's very musical since it has a very cool aluminum driver.
They list on their site www.axiomaudio.com a dealer in your area:
ON St. Catherines ESM Audiotronic 905-684-2388 28 Dunkirk Road
Often the subs can be...
I happen to have some Axiom speakers that I really like. The VP150 center channel....very nice. As well as the EP-175 Sub. The sub, as well as all Axiom speakers, uses a Aluminum woofer and it sounds great...esp for music...very fast and precise!
Also, Like PSB and Paradigm, these speakers...
The HK 520 is essentially the same as the 510 but with Pro-logic 2. I personally like PL2 for viewing satellite TV feed as well as some (not all) music.
I have an Integra (aka Onkyo)receiver which I love. All would be great though.
This kind of thing is NOT good for Marantz. Forums like this and word of mouth can kill some sales.
Few questions and observations:
Are these receivers made in China? Didn't I read about some quality control issues when Marantz started pros. receivers in China?
Could someone sue the company...
I have the Integra 5.2 which is based on the 595 (with a few extra's). It sounds great and I do like the remote(mine's backlit). The Denon 1602 and the Marantz 5200 would also be good choices. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
I am wondering about that D-box 301 sub...it has some good reviews at audioreview (look for it under main speakers...not sub for some reason).
It is a 12" woofer. I'm just wondering if it's ok for music.
I would suggest you wait and take a look at the newer H/K's...the 112 I think. It includes Dolby Pro 2.
I would think the Onkyo 595 and the Marantz 4200 would also be on your shopping list.
Wow, people actually saying stay away from Onkyo and buy Sony! I know, I know the ES line is fine...But Onkyo has a good rep as well. I have an Integra(aka onkyo) receiver and I think they are great. However, all you are gaining is DPL2 and video switching...Only you can say what that is...

Well, I just received my Integra 5.2 (replacing my old Sony Prologic 1090) and have it set up. It sounds great and many things I like. Some things I miss from the old Sony:
The cool level display that actually showed the level going into each speaker in a sound field.
The ability to input...
