Wouldn't the aspect ratio of a 4:3 game on a 16:9 screen remain 4:3? That is, you'll get black bars on the side? The image wouldn't be distorted, and it'll be the biggest 4:3 screen possible on that 16:9. I have my XBox connected to my Sony 36XBR800, and the TV switches from 16:9 mode to 4:3...
Did you see Ricky Gervais in town last week (and on David Letterman) when the DVD for the first series came on sale here in the U.S.? I do agree that unlike the first series, BBCA isn't showing an advert for it every 10 mins! And yes, it's a shame that they're not preserving the aspect ratio...
They kept showing the episode with the guy doing the backflip gone awry again and each and every time I see that, I laugh my ass off. I TiVo'd it and I laugh my ass off each time I see that scene. That, and then the interview with his kid... This show is priceless!!!
There is no extra cost for having the TiVo use the internet (via USB adapter) rather than a phone line (outside the cost of the USB adapter itself, of course).
Thanks for the responses. I haven't seen any of the 2.4Ghz wireless ones, which I wouldn't mind taking a look at. Any particular ones come to mind? I was wondering if they had headphone amps - but I didn't even know where to look for them. Any ideas? Thanks again!
I initially thought of getting wireless headphones for my TV but thought to go the route of just using my regular wired headphones with an extension cord. The problem is that I am not getting a loud enough signal as I would like through the headphones. I have a Sony KV-36XBR800, and attached a Y...
Are they really discontinuing the 40XBR800? I know that they discontinued the 36XBR800, which I have - but I was under the impression that they were keeping the 40 inch as their only 4:3 XBR in their line. Especially since it's the largest 4:3 direct view out there. The Sony site still shows the...
On my Wega, the video input labeling is simply the option to choose a different pre-defined on-screen label for each input source. That is, instead of it saying "Video 1" - you can choose it to say "Satellite" or "Cable Box" on the screen when you choose that respective source to make it easier...
Well, if you saw my posts in this thread, you know I was jockeying between the KV-36XBR800 and the 46" 16:9 HD RPTV from Sony (which weren't even the sets I was initially looking at, I might add). So, what did I do? I decided to go with the 36XBR800. I just fell in love with it after seeing it...
I don't have any help but I hear what you're saying. I just managed to move my Sony 36" 36XBR800 to the third floor where I live with extensive help. It weighs about 240lbs and the very difficult part was that the staircase wasn't too wide and the hairpin turns were difficult to navigate. So...
I am guessing that unless you purchased their (Sears extended warranty plans, you're going to need to contact Toshiba for warranty service. I believe any defects from the time where the store's return policy ends to the end of the warranty period is handled by the manufacturer. The TV is...
I think one of the reasons why I am leaning toward the 36XBR800 (funny, though, how my last message was a choice between two sets that were not even mentioned in my initial message in this thread) is because that this isn't going to be my "end-all" set, but something that seems to fit in well...
Don't think that the 16:9 going into the bedroom hasn't crossed my mind, either. LOL... Hey JoeFish, and you started this thread - but this Joey took it beyond because I'm going through basically what you went through... Same here - I have space considerations right now as well and am...
I've followed Banzai on Channel Four in the UK and I thought it was some of the funniest things I've seen on TV. Most of the skits last night, though, were from the old series from the Brit show. There were a lot of very explicit skits that they couldn't show here and I even though the panties...
Well, not to bump this thread back up - but my visits to a few stores this weekend has given me a bigger dilemma - sort of about what some of you mentioned above. Thanks to the $1800-$2000 price tag of the 36" that I was looking at, I couldn't ignore some of the widescreens out there that...
I've considered a RPTV but the reason I've shyed away from them is because of my personal experience with them. I know they're different now and a lot better than the one I had, but I had bought a Mitsubishi 48" RPTV well over a decade ago - and while it started off nice - the unit gave me...
Actually, I remember picking it up at HMV for £8.99 or £9.99. It was pretty cheap and they had another version of the DVD with the 3-D cover that was going for £18.99 - but the DVDs themselves were the same.
Wow, both of those points reflected basically why I was torn. Watching my DVDs on the widescreen would be so wonderful. That being said, though, the 4:3 36" would produce a widescreen picture of almost the same size (or so it seemed) as the 34" widescreen. Both are HDTV monitors, and the 34"...
Any BANZAI fans? This is another show from Channel Four that has me laughing my ass off. I picked up the DVD last year and recently noticed that Fox is bringing the show here, set to start this weekend, I think? Of course, I can't see how they can show the naughty bits (gosh, I'm speaking like...
Good to hear that the second series is finally coming out. But all the way in October! They actually waited a whole year. :) This show is one of those that I keep laughing after seeing the same bit over and over again. I still don't look forward to the US version, though, despite Ricky...
This is an interesting thread that I wasn't following up but over the weekend, I was at Best Buy trying to decide between the Sony 36" KV36HS510 and the Sony 34" widescreen KV34HS510. I'd like to get a new set in place by the time hockey season begins again, and the 4:3 36" seemed more attactive...
Bretty, Gary - sorry I think I misunderstood. I should have said that the XM car antenna does not need to be stuck to metal in order to operate. As far as it using the metal as a ground plane - I've read conflicting statements despite what it says in the Delphi manual, but I believe it does...
