Tell me more. Are you speaking of an InFocus projector? What model (there seems to be at least a couple X1s on CC's website)? How often does one need to replace a bulb, and how pricey are they? Possibly some stupid questions: Did you just hook up an HD reciever to view HD programming? Can you...
I'm looking to get a new TV, and am willing to spend a grand (or less...). I've been considering some HD models, mostly CRTs from Samsung (30'' 16:9 or 32" 4:3). Still, HD sets are kind of pricey, and for a grand, they're kind of small. Also, I would need an HD set with an integrated tuner...
The Amazon Theater/Tribeca Film Festival Short Film Competition began today. You can view and rate the films at http://www.amazon.com/screeningroom (you need to sign in at Amazon to access the theater). Just something you may want to check out.
The trailer is included. I find it interesting this release is still dubbed a Superbit, even though there are trailers, a motion menu, and a music video. My take at dOc: http://www.digitallyobsessed.com/sho...w.php3?ID=7137
No, I knew going in how the film would be structured, but I felt like Jeunet's heart was in the war sequences, while the other material seemed rather labored. Just my take. We should probably try to focus conversation on the DVD....
This was a real disappointment for me; though visually stunning, it seemed as though Jeunet wanted to make a straight war picture, but got bogged down in the somewhat forced interludes. Audrey did a fine job, but her search had little gravity for me, and the end was rather cliched. Amelie is...
Hello all. Sorry if this is a rehash of a previous topic. I'm in the market for an affordable 16:9 HDTV with an integrated tuner. I've had my eye on some Samsung models (a 26" and a 30") that run for under a grand. Right now, I wouldn't want to spend much more than this. These seem like solid...
I'd love to see an SE of The Thin Red Line more than anyone, but I've started to get more realistic about the prospect; Malick avoids special features, and I don't think the 6 hour cut was intended for release. Prove me wrong, Fox!
I really really want to see this, but I think I'll wait for the official HK release, which should be better than the Face disc...any word on its release date? Nice Chungking Express sig, ThomasC.
Hey Josh- Here's my take on Algiers at digitallyOBSESSED, which includes a description of the gorgeous packaging (at first I was a bit disappointed this didn't come in a 3-disc keepcase, but I've come to like the digipak quite a bit): http://www.digitallyobsessed.com/sho...w.php3?ID=6535...
I haven't seen any discussion on this yet, so I thought I'd get a thread going. Kino's set, due 10/19, includes: As Tears Go By (first R1 release) Days of Being Wild (first R1 release) Chungking Express (same Miramax DVD) Fallen Angels (remastered) Happy Together (remastered)...
Here's my take (in progress) at digitallyOBSESSED: http://www.digitallyobsessed.com/sho...w.php3?ID=6463 It's a beautifully done set, well worth picking up despite the Carney controversy.
I'm reviewing this for digitallyOBSESSED! Each part has its own opening and closing credits. The end credits are preceded by a "next time" preview. This looks to be the complete, originally broadcasted version, though I'm not sure if the "additional 20 minutes" merely indicates this, or if...
I saw 2001 in 70mm locally at the Heights theater a while back. Simply breathtaking stuff. Like Lawrence of Arabia, this must be experienced in the theater, on 70mm.
Hey all, Being a fan of Wong Kar-Wai, I've wanted to see 2046 ever since I heard it was in the works. It looks like another superb effort--a kind of sci-fi/futuristic quasi-sequel to In the Mood for Love. It garnered praise at Cannes (but was overshadowed by a little editorial/documentary...
Thanks for grounding us, Rob. :) Even though this debate brings up a legitimate question, I think it's safe to say either ratio will provide nearly two hours of solid comedy (though I do prefer the roomier 1.85.....:D )
Good question, Adam. I see what you're saying Zachary, but what determines the true OAR in this case? It was clearly shot 1.85:1, so should this be considered the OAR, or the modified TV ratio, for which you say it was "intended" for?
I compared the widescreen and fullscreen transfers during my review. The 1.85:1 anamorphic image clearly contains more picture information on the sides and is not a vertically cropped 1.37:1. This may have been a dual venue title, but I'm not certain. It seems clear the camera operators were...
