The classic Cameron blue color he used for dark scenes to simulate night time, when the Blu-ray came years ago as a step up from the resolution of the previous DVD it went more teal-ish (apparently like so many other movies had been doing with their teal shifts in the newer disk releases and was...
I thought one of the reviews stated that the colors were back closer to the original color timing (more original blue, less teal that was added to the previous Blu-ray)? Or maybe it's only the 4K Blu-ray where the colors are more accurate to the original timing?
You mean in addition to the colors being back closer to the more correct original blue shade at night (a good thing), the dark scenes, which is much of the movie, are now quite a bit brighter overall, thus reducing the dark moody tense feel of the film?
One thing that is rather shocking, is the scan. I mean, come on, a brand new 2024 4K Blu-ray of Aliens, one of the best sci-fi movies ever and a fan favorite sure to get sales when released, and we don't get a 4K scan of the film to base the new disk master on?? Seems a little crazy... Having...
If he's re-doing Terminator 2, let's hope that means the color will stick to the original blue tint for night and not that teal nonsense. Hopefully this re-master also means lots of detail, but not artificial plastic-y looking. Are there any rumors on a release date for Terminator 2? I wonder...
The overall quality is nice, but they, once again, have changed the color timing. The signature cool look of the film has been altered to be warmer now. I really wish they would quit messing with the color timing in newer Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray releases of so many movies and just leave them as...
Probably, most movies are at 1.85 if they aren't at an even wider theatrical ratio. So that's fine, but I wish they had not messed with the color timing, which has always been quite cool and stylized, and rather just stuck with a more nuanced delivery of the cool tones already present.
There are several reviews up now for those that want to check them out. Sounds like the level of detail is much better now, and with the natural film grain generally well retained. Color grading is a bit warmer on this release, so not sure why that was done. It seems the film is now at a 1.85...
That would be the perfect time to release it, and I agree that's when they will do it if it's released this year, which seems likely. I certainly hope they will preserve the original theatrical color timing with it's distinctive look, and go easy on any DNR and the HDR to keep the film's...
Does anyone know if there will be a U.S. 4K UHD Blu-ray set release similar to this new 4K Blu-ray being released in France later this year (link below)? Thanks for any info. =)
A really excellent movie, and I hope the 4K Blu-ray will take the detail up another level with super high bit-rates, while retaining the original color timing and it's intentional look, and also capturing the nuances of those colors and shadow details even more accurately. =)
I noticed the same thing in the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition set on Blu-ray. I had read in some reviews of the set that while the Fellowship of the Ring definitely had the colors changed, that the color timing appeared untouched in the second two films. Well, I've seen all 3 and the...
Our PB2-Plus was delivered on a big truck by a carrier that handles large items, I guess. I think they are called Ohio-Penn Shipping or Cargo, or something like that. Very professional and the box was perfect when it arrived. I wish all companies delivered things that way. But as was said, with...
Apparently the film was shot in a style that would give it that classic cold war film look, which it does and is quite pleasing, so some of what's being seen is as the film should appear (somewhat desaturated, etc.). The problem is they stuck the movie on a single-layer disk, which was a...
Hmm, I think you might be right, his face doen't seem to match his head. Now that I look closer, it appears like they attached his face to a different version of his head, kind of glued it on. haha :) It's hard to believe just how bad this is...
My number 1 vote goes for this cover. Kind of hard to imagine one worse than this, just awful. :) Val Kilmer looks like some kind of disfigured wax dummy. haha :) How little talent and how much poor taste must one possess to make a home video cover like this for a movie? And this guy gets...
Dave Connoy: It's ok, sorry I missed you post back then. haha :)
Well, after nearly ten years of almost constant use (probably 12+ hours a day, on average), the Wega's picture finally started to deteriorate (bleeding colors, various artifacts and such), but we had a lot of great use out of...
Thanks for the link to the updated review. Very interesting how they note in their careful checking of the color in the film that even lettering in the credits has a green cast over it now (instead of remaining white), surely that can't be intentional. Makes me start to wonder if there was...
RAH: Thanks for the analysis of the screen caps and tv, it's very helpful. While I certainly understand Mark's concern (I would be quite annoyed if that scene were that green, discoloring the hobbits and their clothes), if you're saying on your well-calibrated tv that this scene is nowhere...
Ah, ok. Thanks for the info. :) Too bad they didn't have the music video in HD. Or at least include it in the upcoming Extended Edition set, they have tons of extras there, and plenty of disks to put it on, why not include the music video also?
Quick question for those that have the Blu-Ray set of the theatrical version of the trilogy. In the extras, the music video of Enya's excellent song (she should have won the Oscar that year), "May It Be", is that music video in 1080p on the disk, or is it the same as the music video in the...
It's great to see that VMPS speaker cabinets are once again being made in the U.S., as they always had been before! :) http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=78402.0
So if you buy VMPS speakers, not only are you getting some of the best speakers you'll ever hear (at very reasonable...
Cameron Yee: Thanks for the info. Hmm, that's extremely strange for Chinese audiences to not be demanding to hear the real voices of their favorite action movie stars in movies in which they play the leading role. It's too bad, because then we don't even get to hear what Li sounds like in...
I have a question about the English subtitles. Are they reasonably accurate to what is being said in the original Cantonese and Mandarin soundtracks, or are they based on the English dubbing of the 5.1 soundtrack (which apparently is wildly inaccurate to what the characters are really saying)...
