What makes you think it won't? Early on, this was the case. WB has no reason now to dumb down their BD releases like they used to & Paramount was changing their audio tune just before the payoff. **EDIT*** Responding to Stephen
Okay, so you have dual format players in every home. How is this better or different than having blu as the standard? Everyone would still be making players & competing on price. However... then I would have the added "bonus" of finding out the blockbuster movie I just bought doesn't have...
Everyone that bought into their chosen format should have known the risk involved. This past Christmas was the perfect time for studios/manufacturers to see if there would be any momentum shifts. There wasn't. For the ones who already invested in the wrong side, anytime would be bad timing.
That's all well and good, but if HDM can't reach mass market because of format confusion there will be less movies released for you to enjoy in HD. It blows my mind that these studios aren't all getting behind a single format. If HDM doesn't take off, that's a whole new revenue stream they're...
So not Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo or Final Fantasy? Speaking of GTA, the newest rumor is Sony may be purchasing Rockstar (who's making a couple of exclusive games for them). Should be interesting if that pans out.
Sony hasn't "lost" anything. Higher development costs have leveled the playing field somewhat regarding exclusives, but I would take Sony's first and second party developers over MS's any day of the week. Of course, I'm also a PC gamer so I can get most of the 360 "exclusives" anyway... :)
Yes, Lord knows PS3 gamers will be crying this holiday over their sh!tty exclusives like Heavenly Sword, Lair, Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo: Prologue, Haze, Folklore, Time Crisis, Home, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune........
I have no idea what people will or won't do with their money. But I do know a lot of people are weird about having their collection match. Here's a better question: If Pirates 3 sells (for example) 200k units first week, will we see the first two come to parity in sales at some point?
The problem with using Spidey 3 as a barometer is that the single release is way overpriced. The box set will also dilute those figures, and being high priced itself, will result in fewer sales anyway. I'd say Pirates 3 would be a good indicator, but being number 3 in a trilogy that already...
Another reason why I'd like to see how subsequent weeks hold between the two formats. BD software tends to hold much better, enough that their exclusive studios probably still won't care about going nuetral.
I couldn't agree more with the above. For an old school fan who jumped ship around the 10th season, this film was like going through a time warp and landing back in an era when The Simpsons was still one of the most brilliantly hilarious and original shows ever to grace the television screen...
I'm not sure there could've been a format war with vinyl records. As far as I know, 78rpm records were replaced by 45rpm and 33rpm because they were easy to break. These two speeds were needed for different reasons: 45rpm played single song EPs and 33rpm played full album LPs.
I personally never got this line of thinking. DVD shows us everyday that one format can give you: - low hardware prices - low software prices - endless variety of hardware - endless variety of software giving consumers tons of choices. Though, I would love to see Universal be the...
Reading various forums, I get the feeling that many of HD DVD's most staunch supporters seem to believe this. The bottom line is: HDM is only just an infant at the moment. This is a long term upgrade for Home video. Once you get 1080p and uncompressed sound, you really don't need anything...
Probably because it's very likely that HD DVD will never *win* this war and can at best only hope to co-exist. For Blu-Ray, they have a shot. With only 1 format, you're sure to gain greater HDM adoption immediately from those fence sitting, and others can be gained more quickly since there is...
This would be my vote as well, especially this early in the game (before 1.1 profile). A top tier blu player with media center, internet and gaming capabilities. By the way, it only looks like a Foreman grill sitting down. Real men stand theirs vertical. :)
Posted this in another thread (didn't know you had your own): Doug, do you have your PS3 sitting horizontal or standing vertical? Mine stands vertical in an open rack 15 feet away and is quiet as a mouse. From what I've read, the fan seems to be a non-issue when placed vertical. Just curious...
I don't exaggerate when I tell you I absolutely LOATHE pop music, especially R&B influenced music. I'm also not a huge fan of Prince's work. But for some unearthly reason, Purple Rain is one of my favorite albums ever.
What's sad is, you know these transfers will be akin to Christmas Vacation in that WB will see no reason to clean up the masters and be content to just give them to us in HD resolution and leave it at that. I realize these aren't even out yet, so who knows? But it's a trend I've been seeing on...
This is exactly what happens using my Pearl.
Also, though the Pearl can do 1080/24p, setting my PS3 to this has caused MORE judder than in 1080/60p on Ice Age 2 (most noticable during the end credits roll). Don't quite know what that's all about.
