right know i've got the avr3300 with 2 component inputs, and my tv has 2. and i'm using them all with my cable box, dvd player, and gamecube. it doesn't seem unreasonable that i would add a 4th component device in the lifespan of the receiver. hopefully whatever i buy next lasts me more than 5...
andy_a, yes, i am a bit perturbed about the denon going out on me. it lasted just slightly more than 5 years (purchased 12/8/99). and i'm certainly doing nothing out of the ordinary. i don't even push the amp very hard as i live in an apartment. on one hand, that makes me want to stay away from...
thanks for the offer, mikeduke. i think what i'm going to do is go listen to some receivers this weekend and then decide what to do. the 3805 is tempting. all other features aside, i find the 3 component inputs and the ability to convert all video signals to component to be rather compelling...
the audio out recently stopped working intermittently on my trusty denon avr-3300. i took it to a local repair shop, and they told me that one of the boards was bad. the kicker is that the local denon distributor told them the part is discontinued. does that seem bogus to anyone? the avr-3300 is...
here's an update for those keeping score at home... i bought the sony using the coupon for $180. i think i was able to see the chroma bug in toy story on the checkerboard in chapter 3, but i never would have found it if nobody told me about it so i'm not going to worry about it. overall i...
unfortunately, the vcdhelp.com site claims that the tosh 4800 doesn't support svcd. presumably this means the 3800 doesn't either. however, these are just user-written reports so who knows. and unfortunately, in hindsight, i don't think that my best buy has the dvd players hooked up to anything...
like another poster, i am considering using the 10% off coupon i have for this weekend on a new dvd player. i went in today and wrote down the prices and model #s of every unit that claimed to support progressive scan. here they are:
JVC XV-S500 $179.99
Panasonic RP62 $179.99
Philips...
hmmm.... maybe. i was told that they're waiting on a shipment of converter boxes to come in. what part of town do you live in? i live in the bexley area.
you were on the list in january? i called them in january and the customer service rep said they had no information yet about HDTV and to watch my mail. i only called them again recently because someone at work mentioned seeing an ad about it in the paper.
i assume from your comment that the...
the flyer i got from warner said that you needed a tv with component video inputs. but there was an asterisk, and below it said it was also compatible with IEEE 1394 and H-Sync/V-Sync inputs (i'm not familiar with the latter).
now that just makes me jealous; in columbus they are only offering CBS, HBO, and SHO.
when you say the picture quality is "just fine", do you mean that in a bad way, like "merely ok"?
i don't know of any equipment that will record HD. maybe those new D-VHS decks can?
what would be slick is a tivo-like device that could operate on HD signals.
has anyone tried warner's hd cable service yet? i'm supposedly on their waiting list and will be hooked up once their order of hd converter boxes arrives. just curious if anyone had any insight on what i can look forward to (or not look forward to).
