You may be able to install 1/2" wafer or duplex breakers in 1" wide spaces, if your panel can accomodate them and if you don't already have them filling up your panel. That could possibly give you quite a few more circuits. You really do need extra circuits. The computer and home theater...
Mike, as far as hardwiring the Sky-Fi, don't cut off the cigarette lighter adapter to wire the unit in. It is a transformer to change the voltage from your car's 12v to a voltage the Sky-Fi can use. I added a cigarette lighter socket in an out the way and hidden location in my wife's car, and...

Vince, take a look at the Progress Lighting website, in particular, the P3067-15, or the P3116-15. They're 5 light fixtures. No switch, no receptacle though. The receptacle you want would be a code violation, unless it's fed from a GFI. If you want to do it right, you should fish out from the...
Well, I think it's about time to take the hi-def plunge. I've been admiring the Samsung 50" DLP monitor and I've seen 2 models listed. One is a HLN-5065W and the other is a HLN 507W. The difference I see in the specs on Samsungs web site is that the 507 has a Faroudja chip, and the 5065 has a...
Domonic, you can get the boxes 3 1/2" deep. There is also what we call a sidecar to add more space for wires, although you would only be able to use that in new construction.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but to me, the solution is simple. Plastic boxes are available in 5 gang, or you can get gangable metal boxes. Get 5 single gang boxes, take the sides off of them, and screw them together. They are readily available anywhere electrical supllies are sold. Here's...
Don, As long as the flex terminates at the box with a flex connector, you'll have no problem with any inspector, no matter what you're bringing into the box.
My Denon 3300 doesn't do that either, but that sure would be cool.I'd love my receiver to say Xmradio instead of vdp. Just out of curiosity, do any receivers have that capability?
Don, if you can arrange the boxes so that the video cables don't cross the power, you should be okay. If you have to cross the cables, it is generally accepted that if you cross at right angles, you'll be okay. Two seperate boxes next to each other shouldn't be a problem, either. Speaker jack...
Don, the problem you have is with running wires horizontally in the wall. You will probably have studs in the way, if you have a wood framed home, or furring strips if you have a cbs home. To get around /through the studs/furring strips, you have to open the wall up where they are. If you can't...
Being on many construction projects over the years, I've seen various methods for addressing this problem. The best fix that I've seen is to install furring strips(1x2's) perpindicular to the joists. These are shimmed to make the surfaces even, and the drywall is attached to them. Furring strips...
Tom, you may get some noise from a fluorescent ballast. You don't even have to be plugged into the same circuit. Close proximity to your equipment could be enough. If you really want a fluorescent light, try one with an electronic ballast. That might not generate any noise.
Petey, my Xantech receiver has a red led that flashes when I send a remote command. You didn't mention a power supply. Also, you could try moving the emitter around a little bit. I think you should be right over the ir receiver on the component. Not always easy to see.
Domonic, You can look here.WAC Lighting Their MR16 cans need 5". Maybe you can deal with that? They have button fixtures, only 20 watts, but they are not recommended for ceilings.
Ron, I haven't had that problem. Maybe the installer was a little too agressive when installing the wire. 3M makes a trim adhesive for cars. You could try that.
Chris, I've done XM installs on 5 vehicles(4 Toyotas and a Ford Expedition) and all of them had a rubber trim around the windshield/rear window that I could put the very small diameter antenna wires under. I used a small screwdriver and a plastic putty knife to peel the trim back a little bit...
Matt, I'm using the Xantech line, and it works flawlessly. Here's the link.Xantech You'll need a combination of emitters, a receiver and a connecting block.
Michael, the layout of my home theater required me to use ceiling speakers. I installed Boston Acoustics speakers and I'm thrilled with the sound. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile by any means, but I think they do as well, if not better than any other solution for a less than perfect room...
Jack, if your house is wired properly, I wouldn't worry too much about ground loops. If the 2 receptacles you're plugged in to are on the same circuit, you have even less of a chance of having a problem. I don't think that Panamax would have any claim to improper grounding. But, a question to...
Not to get too far off topic, but, Ed, there's no reason to NOT use halogen fixtures. I would guess that you had a bad connection, or possibly a bad switch. I've used halogen fixtures in lots of installations, and never had a problem. Also, you have to be careful not to exceed the rating of the...
