Ronald, Your post was made at 4:09 a.m. As fascinating as home theater is, 4:09 a.m. is too early for man or beast to be posting stuff. You need your sleep just like everyone else!
It might also be that the movie I was watching was broadcast in 1080P rather than 720P or 480P. I don't really know how the various movie channels and providers really present their movies, regardless of what they may say.
I did not look at any TVs this round other than the Panasonic plasma sets to determine which was the best replacement for my old set, so I cannot comment on the LG model.
I just read Peter Olson's thread about his new TC-P65VT25 television and saw Ron's interest in the set. I have not see the set do it's 3D trick, but I can comment on the picture as compared to the TH-58PZ800U. Although ostensibly the resolution is identical (2,073,600 pixels), there is...
After waiting for almost two months for my TH-58PZ800U to be repaired, we have a new TC-P58VT25 sitting in the living room. The Z800U crapped out a week before the end of the 12 warranty period. We waited and waited and waited for the parts to come in for the set to be repaired. Multiple calls...
It took me forever to get a DVD player that would pay both NTSC and PAL DVDs from every region. Now I would like to add BluRay with the ability to play NTSC DVDs, PAL DVDs, and BluRay discs from all regions. Anyone know of a player that will fill the bill?
FWIW the TV is a new Panasonic...
Jeremy, thanks for the info. I am just a MAC user, but my son is a MAC person, and he told me about Airfoil. I also read the article in MAC World about the latency effect. I will not know if that will be a problem or not until try it. Unless the Airport/Airfoil combination is really kludgey, it...
If it was wireless it would. I am trying to avoid more cables strung around the house. Since Bluetooth is built into the MAC I would like to find a methodology to send audio from the Powerbook via Bluetooth to device with a Bluetooth receiver that would have a stereo output port that would could...
That's a problem for me as well. I currently have a Malata DVP 520 region free player which will play my region 2 disks. Obviously I would jump at a HiDef region free player, especially one with the Malata's features. I suspect that when the Chinese get into producing HiDef players for the mass...
I have a respectable collection of regular DVD that I would replace with HD's if I were not retired. (Retirement has a way of curtailing profligate spending.) Since retirement income discourages me from replacing my current DVD's with HiDef versions, I am not in a hurry to jump into the market...
Like I said, I hadn't added it up. My previous experience with the digital side of photography and desktop publishing taught me that I needed to max out speed, ram, disk, and video if I wanted to do what I wanted to do without either taking too much time or crashing the system. I didn't plan...
Scott,
As to cost, I suspect the per print cost for digital is just about the same for silver based prints. If you make many prints, the cost of ink will drive you out of house and home, and glossy digital printer paper is not much cheaper than a good multi contrast RC paper. Of course even the...
Scott,
I agree whole heartedly with you that the technology facilitates the learning process because most people have access to a computer whereas very few have access to a darkroom. However I suspect that the learning curve for chemically based photography would have the same slope as for...
Brent,
I am not sure I would go that far. One of the things that separates a good photogrpaher from a snapshot shooter is the ability to select the right composition, lighting, and in Henri-Cartier Bresson's words the 'Decisive Moment.' Photoshop is certainly easier in some ways than...
Just prior to the digital invasion, I built a two room darkroom, one for film processing and one for printing. While I may end up switching to digital for 35mm format, I will keep my 4x5 for film as long as they continue to produce it. I had not heard that Kodak was going to stop producing...
Though the opening credits were clever, but I hope that we don't have to wade through them for every show. Acting was workman like, but not inspired IMHO. Not sure if I will be a regular or not. It all depends on the direction the show takes. If is is nothing more than a soap opera with Roman...
I am in the market for a second NTSC/PAL region free DVD player, and I wonder if anyone has any information about any of these vendors: http://www.regionfreedvd.net/ http://www.world-import.com/ http://www.zonefreedvd.com/ http://www.theelectroniccompany.com/...
Unlike certain other things in life, size does matter. You would be best served by getting the biggest HDTV ready set the room can hold and your budget can afford.
Ron, Janet and I were in LA for one of the earlier national meets, and had a marvelous time. Since the studios stopped rolling out the red carpet for the HTF folks, LA loses its glamour as a possible meeting site. We've talked about going on the Alaska cruise for years, and if HTF says...
I was delighted to find all three of the movies and the documentary in one box, but all I have watched are the documentaries. I started to watch Raiders and was extremely disappointed in the unsharp video. I guess the film must have been in terrible shape, but it is still very disappointing. I...
Recently I bought a Malata N520 from a fellow HTF member. Finally I can view my region 1 PAL DVDs in the comfort of my region 2 home. Unfortunately I made a tactical error. I repositioned my DVD players by giving my mother the one that had been in my bedroom and moved the one in the living room...
I Just got my first non region one DVD that I MUST see. Therefore, I am shopping for the Malata DVP520. Where can get for the best price. So far I've see it for as little as $340 and as much as $400.
Thanks for the info.
