If I cancel DISH, do I get to keep the HDDVR?

Hey all, I'm going to post this in multiple places to make sure it gets view by the right group. I hope that's OK. My wife and I switched to the DISH Network from Direct TV back in November and got HD. We've since decided that the monthly cost is more than we want to pay, and that we just...

Star Wars discussion from The Bits...

I think it's kind of funny all this "I'll watch my Definitive Collection..." talk (and I say this as someone who has a LaserDisc player hooked up ONLY to watch the Def. Collection!). I'm as disappointed as the rest of you that this release is below sub-par, but come on! When those discs come...

Star Wars discussion from The Bits...

My thoughts exactly! I'd gladly pay upwards of $40 per movie for discs like these, but am hardly interested in paying $30 (probably more like $20 on release) for rehashes of the box set I already own and non-anamorphic transfers of Laserdiscs I already own!

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Island

While it may be close to all those other movies, it's really the clone of "The Clonus Horror" which is a terrible movie but made for a great MST3K There was even a pending lawsuit by the Writer/Director of Clonus after he saw "The Island" in theaters. IMDB News Fun Stuff!

Yes, another what AVR should i buy thread :)

Why can't you just run a line out of your headphone jack on your MP3 player into one of the open analog inputs on your receiver? A 1/8" mini to rca cable will do it.

FS: Star Wars Definitive & THX Laserdiscs

Hey all, I'm selling my Star Wars Definitive Laserdisc collection. Before I put it up on eBay, I thought I'd give first dibs here. I am including the THX Wow! laser disc, as well as a Pioneer CLD-S201 laserdisc player with remote. Unfortunately, this is the set without Leia welding, and the...

    Any experience with DVD mega-changers?

Curtis, how does the a/v quality of the sony compare to the Denon? That's one of my big debates. I want a quality player, not just a new toy. Joey

    Any experience with DVD mega-changers?

I'm looking into getting a Sony DVP-CX985v 400-disc changer. I like the idea of not having to touch the discs (kids). I just wanted to know what your opinions were, even in regards to CD mega-changers. Any input would be appreciated. Joey

    Website comparing 16:9 to 4:3?????

Hope someone can help... I just recently got a new PC so most of my old bookmarks are gone. I'm trying to find that website that compares a 16:9 tv to a 4:3 tv. I know I've seen it posted here, but my searching brings up nothing, both here and on google. Someone here has to have it, please...

Will there be a LOTR Boxed Set?

As stated above, the EE's are the final releases. It wouldn't surprise me though if a box is available to order, a la the Jurassic Park Trilogy, with a disc or two of bonus material relevent to all three movies that they didn't want to release before all 3 were out. At least that's how I hope...

    Sony's KP57HW40 vs. KP57WS500

Quick question for you, My Father-in-law is looking at buy a new TV (His old one died so this is a good time). While we've been comparing, we were looking at TVs at Best Buy. The one he liked best was the 57 inch Sony. It was selling for $2799.99. When we got home, I was looking on Sony's...

    Watching Movies in Mono

Ok, I did some experimenting and found this: If the movie is in DD 1.0 mono (Snow White) then it plays only through the center channel. Makes sense. If the movie is in DD 2.0 mono (Terminator, Conan, Butch Cassidy) then it goes to Pro-Logic, which sounds OK, I'm just trying to get it to...

    Watching Movies in Mono

A thread in the software forum reminded me to ask this question. I have a Yamaha RXV-800, when I watch a movie that is encoded in Mono, it still defaults to Pro-Logic. How do you guys watch mono movies, and is there a setting or way to listen to the source exactly as encoded without processing...

    Toshiba 42H82 vs. 42HDX82

In my opinion, go with the HDX if you can. The picture to me seems better and the look of the set is much nicer (the chome front plate is sharp). The components used in the HDX series are Toshiba's "top of the line." Also, chances are DVI will become the standard, so it might be worth...

    Question about "The Rock" CC

Just so you think you're not crazy, I get the same thing on my Toshiba player. What brand DVD do you have? I also think the DD sounds a little more dynamic. I've asked this question a couple of times and never gotten much response. It must be a conspiracy;) Joey

Hooking up Component cables to my 50hdx82

A lot of people will tell you to go directly to the TV with component cables so you don't lose any signal strength. You probably won't notice the diffence, but then again you might. If you go through your receiver then you don't have to switch inputs on the TV and receiver, just the receiver...
