This is for use with a "5.1-ready" receiver with 6 analog inputs. I Upgraded to a reciever with a built-in decoder, so this outboard decoder isn't needed any more. Sounds great, works swell, have remote, no manual or box. I'll pack it lovingly for shipping.
Asking $75 + shipping.
FWIW, I own an AVR-1400 and am completely pleased with its performance. I upgraded to an 1801 (for the built-in DD decoder), but the 1400 is a nice, solid, clean machine (now relegated to "living room" duty).
Prologic was just fine, and worked great with the the external decoder (let me...
Yah, my local Sears shows them, too. But if you try to order, it says "usually available in 3 to 6 days." I'll just go that route if this doesn't pan out in a day or two. Sears was good about price-matching for the last one I got, but I don't know if they'll do it again.
I recently moved the movie system downstairs, and left the living-room stereo with just four puny satellites. The Sony has the biggest 'bang for the buck', and I'm looking to keep costs down (it's mostly just 'atmosphere music' for The Wife).
However, my (admittedly limited) searching doesn't...
It's been my experience that, while carpet is a good reflection-killer, but doesn't really do much for stopping sound going THROUGH the walls. I'd recommend taking some of it down (particularly in the zone between you and the speakers). If you want a denser wall, you could always add some...
I'm going to go out on a limb here...
You say that the distortion can only be found on the Saving Private Ryan DVD? You're aware that this particular DVD is purposely full of a lot of streaking, grain, and distortion -- to look more like it was shot with documentary cameras during a real...
Here's a cool URL to help you make your decision.
I ended up going with an XBR that would *just fit* into an existing entertainment center. Since it does the anamorphic squeeze, I got the biggest "16:9" picture that would fit in my cabinet, plus even bigger 4:3 images for when I was watching...
I'll e-mail this to you, as well:
I've looked through my manual, and it says nothing about the kind of hookup you suggest. However, it sounds like a bad idea to me -- I'd recommend using either the line-level inputs or the speaker-level inputs, but not mixing them.
Sears' price matching seems to vary store by store. It might depend on the manager you speak to. I printed out a page showing the online price. I called ahead to make sure I could do it, got the name of the guy who said "okay", and made sure to talk to him when I showed up. He took my...
There are quite a few convergence issues that can be corrected electronically. I'm at work, so I can't indicate the settings -- but it's clearly marked in the oh-so-handy service manual. I got the TV looking pretty close to perfect.
However, the one item that can't be corrected is the problem...
It turned out well. A tech showed up on September 11th (on that day, oddly, my TV was working just fine! Perhaps it knew that functioning properly was important that morning).
He replaced one of about three big boards inside the chassis. I'm no tech, but there appeared to be a lot of stuff...
I'm going to throw in my $.02 here and say that it doesn't make any difference; a pulse of light through a cheap optical cable is the same as a pulse of light through an expensive optical cable -- especially over the distances we're talking about, typically 3 feet or less.
"Shielding" on an...
I'm not trying to advertise; I have nothing to do with this company. But! At a public outdoor event last month, I was handed a flyer by a company that makes DVDs from your home videos. They do a good job -- and the first one's free, kid.
For that price, I threw them the 1st of 4 8mm...
Me, I've been slowly wrecking my hardwood floors by sliding the whole danged cabinet out from the wall. My 32XBR400 fits in the thing with less than 1/4" to spare on either side. I really wish my house were big enough to let me construct a "built-in" space that I could access from the rear. I...
Thought I'd follow-up on this, in case anyone actually cares :)
I called Sony. They acknowledged the problem and gave me an "E-number" which will allow an authorized Sony service center to be reimbursed by Sony after they come out to my house and fix the problem (hooray, no hauling!). There...
My beautiful (well, except for some "uneven brightness" issues that I was willing to accept) 32XBR400 has begun to misbehave -- naturally, just weeks after the 1-year standard warranty expired.
While watching the HBO show "Six Feet Under", the set began to shut off when the screen went to one...
Marshawn's posting contains some confusing (and possibly incorrect) information. First, I think that s/he means "squeeze" when s/he says "unsqueeze". Also, you don't have to use the component inputs for the TV to recognize the squeeze signal -- my DVD player is plugged into my 32XBR400 through...
My XBR400 reduces the size of both pictures, so the aspect ratio is still correct for each. You can scale the pictures up and down in size (increasing the size of one proportionally decreases the size of the other).

Curious: would the fact that it's been calibrated still be relevant after it gets moved? I would think that alignment, as well as any compensations for, say, the earth's magnetic fields, would all be in question once the set has moved from its original location.

True, resolution won't increase on things like broadcast and VHS -- but scan lines aren't a problem with an XBR (at least with my 32XBR400) until you get about 4 feet away!
