Have you looked at bluejeanscable yet? Though for a 1 foot pair, it will cost you more than $15.00, more like 25. When you want custom cable lengths, you're gonna pay more.
There can be a difference. Look for a low gauge number for the wire used inside. Personally, I use BlueJeansCables for all my interconnects. Their prices are hard to beat. The 7ft HDMI cable I just got from them was under 30 bucks shipped. Very well constructed cable, using 24 gauge wires...
APC is coming out with their UPS units for HT. Though a bit pricey. They offer voltage regulation and filtering as well. I'm opting for the non-UPS version just for the voltage regulation. APC AV
The 'free flowing' cable inside is for the ground shield. It should probably be hooked up at the turntable ground, since you said it shows no continuity back to the RCA connector. Should help reduce induced noise.
John, I think you meant to say run your sub in series with the mains, using the speaker level inputs and outputs. He should contact Velodyne and verify the setup he is trying to use. Most plate amps I believe use a seperate crossover for the speaker level connections, non-adjustable.
John, You're correct. Though the SOS is easy for ANYONE to use. It's also extremely small. Don't forget to add the cost of a new microphone to that BFD, and some measuring software, as well as a PC to run it.
The S.O.S. is designed to remove the largest measured peak in your subwoofer's response. It contains its own signal generator, comes with its own microphone. You hook it up on the RCA connection between your receiver and subwoofer. You put the microphone at your seated listening position. A...
The cheapest place to get the SOS that I have found so far is from the manufacturer. Here's the link: SOS Homepage They charge $269.00 plus shipping, add taxes if you live in California.
I would opt for an ISF tech to come out. Second choice would be to have the people you have the service with come out and adjust it, and clean it. I don't know if you'll get someone knowledgeable enough to set everything up the way you want it though (unless you get the ISF tech). Are you the...
I've had good luck with all the Sony receivers I've owned. From the DE series and the ES. No failures whatsoever, all were used over 1 year. Whenever the TV was on, it was on(which is a lot at our house). Only within the last month did I switch out for a Denon 3803.
If you use the Avia DVD, here is the info from Guy Kuo on setting up your sub: AVIA intentionally carries its low bass test signals on each of the five main channels independently instead of the LFE channel for the express purpose of making main channel bass reproduction more accurate...
I just recently opted for an open boxed 3803 for $550.00, with full warranty. I just wasn't able to justify getting the 3805 at $1200.00. You could always wait until the next model comes around to replace the 3805, and then pick one up much cheaper.
Monster Z2 cables for my L/C/R speakers, Monster Z1 cable for my surrounds. Of course, I won the cables back when Monster was having monthly drawings, so the price was right! I use the BetterCables sub cable, which I got from SVS, to run my SVS! The Z2's came in fancy carrying cases, the Z1 was...
Setting the center channel back further than the mains can not be compensated for in most or all A/V receiver delay settings. This would be the case if the center channel is on the wall behind the TV.
The easiest solution for now would be to not even run a center channel, and let the mains handle it. The other solution would seem to be to build a small stand for the center channel that could sit on the bottom ledge of your entertainment center, and adjust the height of the center speaker to...
If it was a bunch of crap, then I doubt that Athena would bother to put it into their docs. Speakers are electro-mechanical devices. Therefore, their sound will change with use, as the driver is exercised. If you cannot spend the time to properly break them in, and you are not happy with their...
Kenneth, if you want the lowest bass for music, you should probably look at the 39inch or 46inch SVS models. Though the 25-31PCPlus model can be tuned down to 22Hz with the port plugs. Even with the 25-31, in your size room, it will have more than enough bass.
It says right in the Athena documentation that you need to run them for at least 100 hours to break them in. Are you running that center as a 'small' speaker in your receiver configuration? Even though it is rated at a low end of 60Hz, it would probably sound much better if you set it as 'small'...
Kevin, could you please elaborate more on your setup? How are your speakers configured on your receiver, etc. Did you use a Sound Level meter to adjust the speakers, or just do it by ear, etc...
Krishna, are there no local dealers near you that carry the Denon line? If so, try to get a demo of the models you are looking at. The 3803's are disappearing fast.
