I have one of those and that thought had crossed my mind. I think there's some kind of love for the number 9000 in japan...??? Maybe they think all people love the number 9000? I had a Marantz 9000 too....
I have my model numbers scrambled and so does Sony. Mine is a UBS-X1100ES. It does UHD-BD. Sony gets stuck on loving certain numbers that I presume they deem lucky, appealing, or something else too....??? Having multiple 1100 models is confusing. Sony loves 9000. They're always looking for a new...
I got the same one but from 220 Electronics. I've only had mine about 6 weeks. It's done everything right except it kept freezing towards the end of Spartacus 4K a few days ago. It must need new Firmware but I have the latest. I had to finish the show with one of my Panasonic players. I really...

I've had a change of opinion about up-firing Atmos speakers. I'm getting much better results since I switched processors. I was using an Onkyo 1030 receiver for processing. I became disgruntled with it for a variety of reasons. It's video processing/pass-through was dragging down the quality of...
I've only ever had separates. Any receiver I've ever had was used as a pre. My first surround system, from the late 80's, was a Pioneer VSX-5000 receiver, two S.A.E. 2x100 power amps, Pioneer Laserdisc player, and 4 Sony tower speakers. That was before Pro-Logic. It's all just evolved from...
In the long run, separates will be cheaper. They'll last much longer on average. Upgrades will be easier once you go separate. All you have to change is the processor unless the channel count goes up. My main amp, a Rotel 990, 3 x 200 watt unit has been in continuous use since 1994. My Sony ES...
Josh Zyber over at High Def Digest made his system with 6 Atmos speakers before a processor supported more than four. You could ask him how he did it. You really don't need more than four channels in my estimation. I'd put some accent lights that dim in the two extra holes. 4 ceiling speakers...
You gave me an excuse to practice some more with my new camera. The main amps are a Rotel 993, 3 x 200 WPC and a Sony ES 55 that's rated at 110 WPC but behaves like a much bigger beast, more like 200 WPC. I keep adding stereo amps every time the channel count goes up. I think the amp race is...
I've been considering that. I think there's at least 4 speaker options for me to pick off the 1030's menu. The words Top-Middle might have been one of the options....? .....or, something like that. I'm using Dolby Enabled Speakers since the little Atmos speakers are sitting atop my mains. I made...
I've come to the same conclusion. I have these little Atlantic Tech 44-DA Atmos speakers sitting on top of my B & W 603 speakers in my living room system. They just don't localize effects anywhere near as well as my big system in the basement with 4 ceiling speakers. However, the Atmos speakers...
I may change my switches out. My current ones are Lutron. They're the ones with a push button in the middle and the side bar for dimming control.....which I got back in 2001. Thanks!
If I get a dimmer switch, it needs to have the ability to operate from 2 locations....would ya call that a clone switch...? The LED bulbs are about 2 years old. The dimmer switches are from 2001, when I built my house, and still work well.
Maybe there are newer dimmer switches that work better with LED's than my old 2001 switches....? In my playroom where I have 9 can light in the ceiling, when I put all LED's in them, they went into a light show mode, randomly blinking, flashing and looking more like a disco light show than...
Dimmable LED's don't have a large range of dimming. Mine don't have nearly as much as range as incandescent bulbs do. They won't go anywhere near very dim. Just guessing, LED's seem to only dim down to about 50% of full....maybe a tad more, at best.
I finally got my mini Atmos system up and running. I'll post some pictures tomorrow and my thoughts about the performance. I did audition it some yesterday and was a bit underwhelmed by the scenes I tried. I'm not done with the fine adjustments yet, probably. I really could use a conversation...
It doesn't bother me all that much that the majority of videodiscs coming out don't have Atmos or DTS-X. My Integra processor is good at turning 5.1 or 7.1 into 11 channel. Everything seems likes it's coming up Atmos.
I keep it pretty simple with the surround modes. I use DTS or Dolby straight up or add Dolby Surround to Dolby or DTS Neural for DTS if I want to use all the channels for material that's not Atmos or DTS-X encoded. I've never used stuff like TV Logic and the other modes I could add. If any...
Can you turn off all the speakers except for the Atmos channels? That might surprise you. It's hard to locate Atmos sounds on my 7.2.4 system. I can easily do this because all my channels are powered by outboard amps. I have in-ceiling speakers. I will have an up-firing Atmos system in my living...
