    Using pre/pro dac's

I have used both a Levinson #36, Proceed AVP and now a Proceed AVP2. I preferred the #36 over the AVP but the new AVP2 is definitely awesome. Noticably better than the original AVP and I'd say better than the #36 as well.

    24/96 home recording

Kevin, There have been some discussions on this topic over at the chesky forum ( makers of DAD discs ). I believe you need to make "vob" files from an avi stream with 96/24 audio track. In essence it is a slide show with the 96/24 audio track. You'll need some sort of video editing...

Proceed AVP owners: upgrade to AVP2?

Alan, I've thought long and hard about this and I still don't have an answer! I use my system as 80% music 20% HT. I don't have rear side channels set up or rear center and don't really have a desire to do so. Don't know if I really wanted to add the extra channels and amplification...

    CDDB question

All, The "1" and only choice it came up with was the correct one. I was surprised at this as well thinking many more choices would fit the criteria of just those two parameters. Most of my cdr burns are compilations of 14 to 20 tracks using up the whole disc, but its...

    CDDB question

Anyone, I transferred an lp to cdr over the weekend, popped it in my laptop at work today (MusicMatch) and a pop up window tells me the closest it can find for this cd from CDDB is Judas Priest - Unleased In The East. Yes that was the lp, but how did CDDB know?? In the past...

    Question for Proceed AVP Owners:

I've never seen this, but I'm running all sources through a Meridian 518 first, reclocking the stream. It does take a second or two to lock on as I channel surf through the Sat dish. I am still running the original software from purchase. Never saw the need to upgrade yet. Don't...

    Vandersteen in a HT?

Kevin, I originally had 2ce as my fronts and when I upgraded to 3A Sig's I put the 2's in the rear. Mine sounds fantastic. I'm not convinced you need speakers every three or four feet in your room in order to convey realism. What are we up to now, 7.1???? There isn't...

    Football:Horrid Locals, Excellent ESPN ???

This has been my exact experience. My signal is 96%, yet the NFL ticket channels are really a mess. I have two receivers, the Dolby Digital one in my HT room with a Panasonic ct34wx50, the extra in the family room with a 10 year old Zenith. The Zenith looks better!! Some of...

    Vandersteen Signature Series Speakers...Opinions?

Scott, Don't take that the wrong way, they can play loud, but they are not P.A. speakers. I believe the speaker efficiency is 86 or 87db and most important the design is a first order cross-over. First order cross-overs keep the music "in-phase", that's one of the reasons I...

    Vandersteen Signature Series Speakers...Opinions?

Scott, The speakers do present a deep and wide soundstage. They really disappear in the room. They are very detailed in presentation, bringing the subtle sounds and noises of a soundtrack that give you that you that "you are there" feeling. Isn't that the object of HT? Now...

    Vandersteen Signature Series Speakers...Opinions?

I originally ran Vandersteen 2ce's as my front speakers with 2 2w subs. I have since upgraded to the 3A Sig and moved the 2's to the rears. The subs are currently idle, but I'm thinking about getting the model 5 cross-over and connecting the 2W's with the 3A's Sig's. My dealer...

What do I need to know before I buy recordable CD?

Paul, SCMS may be your main concern, I don't know. If your MD's were made from Digital sources you won't be able to make a CDr from it digitally. That being you'll need a deck with a good A to D section. Features to look for: SCMS control Digital Volume control...
