Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

My set arrived today (R2), and I have real problems watching waxworks outside of Madam Tussaud's. These transfers look pretty good to me. As good as I expect films of this age would ever allow. Can't comment on Star Trek V though. Not sure that will ever make its way into the player ;)

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Bram Stoker's Dracula -- in BD

I've also watched it over my Xmas break ... I have to agree. It looks great on my 1080p display. Spectacular at a few points. This rates for me alongside a small number of other discs, 12 Monkeys being another, which show off hi-def's ability to show both what the filmmaker intended and the...

Dvd Etc. Magazine Poll: All Members Please Respond

Brazil (Criterion) - This is the set that really shows off what DVD can do to enhance your appreciation of a film. It really all started with this set, which I think remains the benchmark for "serious" DVD packages. North by Northwest - This is the disc that really shows what DVD can do for...

    LOTR and audience reaction

Watched it twice now - at the Embassy theatre in Wellington. NZ Audiences have been great - there's been clapping and cheering both times, and people pulling out the hankies when they should. But this is PJ's home town - perhaps we are biased over here...? :)

What originally got you into DVD.......

If there was no Criterion Edition of "Brazil", I might still not have a player. I was (and am) a huuuuuge Brazil fan. I ordered the set from Amazon before I even had a player, and bought my player as soon as they arrived (with the discs sitting there, there was no way I could resist). The...

Almost Famous DC - Region 2 gets DTS

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the inclusion of DTS on R4 releases where not available on R1 releases is because we often have only English soundtracks. Often the R1 releases have a wider selection of audio (often French, for example, which I assume is to keep those Canadians happy) that we...

is it me or are DVDs starting to get a tad expensive?

It is to be expected, though. People were saying at the the time that those prices wouldn't last, as a lot of companies were loss-leading to clear out their competitors. For some, like Reel and Express, that didn't play out too well - the market held up pretty well, they lost a lot of money...
