All, The server facility in which the HTF servers are housed lost power earlier this morning. UPS systems didn't work properly, so the servers rebooted. The non-volatile time setting on one server was apparently incorrect; I've fixed it.
Looks like I'm going to get to this before Packy, so here's a quick heads-up...
A second processor was installed in the front-end web server to help it cope with load. The system was installed with a Linux kernel that only supports one processor, so that was replaced with an SMP-aware kernel...
Actually, I can't take much credit... it was a quick hack to hold us over until the additional processor arrives. Right now, the database server is actually serving about half the web requests in a load-balancing configuration. Seems to work okay, though.
You may still see some slowdowns over the next day or two. I underestimated what percentage of the load vBulletin and its associated scripts are - they're hitting the new web box pretty hard. I'm having an additional processor overnighted in, which should even things out when installed.
Thanks for the comments guys; they're very much appreciated. There is a bit of slowdown going on right now... I'm working on tweaking the settings a bit more to alleviate it (it's an easy fix). Tuning is really a different beast when going to a dual-server setup.
The new web server is online. Depending on your ISP's cache settings, you may hit the old server for up to a day, but you won't notice as both point to the same database. Performance should be much improved during peak times. I will be tweaking with database tuning now that the database...
The server is equipped with RAID, which protects against the most common cause of data loss - drive failure. However, it doesn't protect against database corruption, of course.
Parker and I have communicated and set up daily database backups. However, bear in mind that it still isn't an...
Weird. This was a combination of two problems; always the worst to track down.
The ethernet interface (or cabling) on the server looks like it may be having problems. I forced it down to 10mbit from the switch, and that got the transmit errors under control.
Also, a log file reached the...
I had this receiver, and it suffered no such problem. It sounds like there's something wrong with your friend's.
I'm grasping at straws, but you might try a different digital input on the off chance there's something wrong with just one of them. (Don't forget to set the receiver accordingly...
