Any opinions on the Toshiba 40H80?

At viewing distance of 13ft the 40H80 would be too small IMO. At that distance I would look at the 57" set or larger. It's hard to tell in the store how big the set will look in your home. I've seen some people make a cardboard mockup to see how big a set will look in the home. At my viewing...

2-3 Pulldown for Toshiba H series

Got a call from Toshiba. I am on the list and it will be about 3-4 weeks before I get the remote. Jim

2-3 Pulldown for Toshiba H series

I called my dealer and they said that since Toshiba has told them nothing about this, I should try to go directly to Toshiba. They said to let them know the results or if Toshiba gave me any problems. So I called Toshiba yesterday and had no problem getting on the list to get the remote to...

    ISF Certification or not?

Thanks for the information, Jim A. I guess I should have mentioned that I've been to that site and have done several of the suggested tweeks already. So far that includes; convergence/geometry using grid overlays adjusting picture position and overscan electrical and mechanical focus...

    Question regarding 16:9 non-RPTV sets.

The only direct view 38" I know of is the one from RCA. I bet if you did a search here on RCA you would find a good deal of information. I do know it has a built in HDTV tuner and others here report it has a great picture. From what I've seen it the store, I don't think it's doubler...

2-3 Pulldown for Toshiba H series

Thanks for the link, MickeS. It certainly looks promising! That type of verification is exactly what we needed. I look forward to seeing posts about the results. I do have one question, though. I've handled all warranty issues directly through my local dealer who has given me first class...

2-3 Pulldown for Toshiba H series

Still no word from Toshiba USA since their last response saying they will look into this matter. I'm also curious why Gary, who started this thread and who seems to know something about this, has not posted anything on this matter since May 20th. I hate to think that someone here would...

thinking of getting a 16:9 sony wega import

Unless I'm missing something, this set will not work in the US. European sets use a different TV standard (PAL?) and different power requirements. Jim ------------------

2-3 Pulldown for Toshiba H series

Just a quick update... I responded to Toshiba's note and sent them a link to this thread. Here is the response I received.

2-3 Pulldown for Toshiba H series

Nathan, You are correct. But the only thing this shows is that Toshiba made changes to the **H80 line (as is their right)but has shown no sign of offering this "upgrade" to those of us who bought units made before the magic date. As it stands now, we are SOL. Jim ------------------

    New Toshibas much lighter??

I've noticed that the new Tosh's are MUCH lighter than the current models. I was sharing this with my dealer and we couldn't figure out what they could have done to lose so much weight. Then it hit me....(and I hope I'm wrong)....maybe Tosh is going to use mylar in place of the current heavy...

    Ken Crane's DVD Planet?

I noticed on the Digital Bits site a link to an online store called "DVD Planet". Clicking on this link takes you to a site called Ken Crane's DVD Planet. Anyone familiar with this company? Your experiences and recommendations are greatly appreciated. Jim

Is there a widescreen projection TV that will correctly handle non-anamorphic?

Michael, That is good news. I've always liked the Pioneer sets, but the progressive lock issue was a deal breaker for me when I decided to buy last fall. It will be interesting to see how the new Pioneer sets compete in price. Currently, they have failed to keep up with the competition. Jim

Is there a widescreen projection TV that will correctly handle non-anamorphic?

Mitsubishi also gives you aspect control with progressive signals with one exception; the stetch mode for 4:3 material is not available with a progressive signal. All modes are available on the Toshibas with a progressive signal. For some reason unknown to me, Pioneer still has the progressive...

Panasonic 47" widescreen, prices looking good !

"The picture in that add is a Toshiba!!" LOL! You're right! Doesn't say much for that dealer. For anyone considering the Panasonic, I would also suggest considering the new Toshibas that will be coming out. I expect prices should be very competetive. Jim

New Toshiba XXH81 owners manuals are online!!

Interesting. Couple things I noticed; remote is in the style of the X81s except the dreaded reset button isn't there. Also, you no longer have to go into the menu to access the different TW modes. This is the only thing that bothers me on my 40H80. Also, I''m glad to see a better variety of...

There is a great deal of information available for this set. To much to put here. So here's a link that will give you all kinds of great info. http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/usefu...hiba_tips.html If you do nothing else, though, get a copy of Avia or Video Essentials and get those user...

    largest screen size??

It's a matter of personal taste. Try looking at a variety of sizes at your viewing distance and see what you like. Also, the quality of the signal being viewed can have an affect on this. Keep in mind what types of signals you most watch when deciding on a size. In the end, you may have to...

3:2 Pulldown Incorporated Into Toshiba Sets After 1/21/2001

I am also waiting to hear if anyone has confirmed this. My 40H80 was manufactured in Dec. 2000. Using Star Trek Insurrection it is apparent that it does not use 3:2 pulldown detection (or if it does, not very well). There is a very obvious difference between using the TV's internal doubler...

RCA 38" HDTV kaput after 14 days!

Pete, The problem with my Tosh 40H80 was that it would often reset to the 4x3 mode and would lose it's clock settings. Also, sometimes the power light would come on, but no picture. When this happened it would not respond to any remote commands or buttons on the front of the set. I noticed...

    Tosh 40H80 power up problem

I've noticed that about 20% the time I power up my 40H80, I will hear some extra clicks and the set reverts back to the 4:3 mode. Also when this happens, it loses it's clock setting. On one occasion, the power light came on, but no picture or sound. At that point it would not let me turn off...

Best STB available? 720p? Toshiba? Sony HD100? Zenith?

My understanding (and I've been told this by my retailer) is that the Toshiba converts everything to 1080i. So if your looking for 720p, this may not be a good choice for you. Jim ------------------

    Toshiba 56h80 vs Pioneer sd532hd5

Both sets are very capable. IMO, the Pioneer wins in the cosmetics department. However, the Toshiba's line doubler produces fewer artifacts, especially during scenes with lots of motion. Also, if you plan on using a progressive scan source (ie- progressive scan DVD player or external line...
