The only direct view 38" I know of is the one from RCA. I bet if you did a search here on RCA you would find a good deal of information. I do know it has a built in HDTV tuner and others here report it has a great picture. From what I've seen it the store, I don't think it's doubler...

Unless I'm missing something, this set will not work in the US. European sets use a different TV standard (PAL?) and different power requirements. Jim ------------------

Nathan, You are correct. But the only thing this shows is that Toshiba made changes to the **H80 line (as is their right)but has shown no sign of offering this "upgrade" to those of us who bought units made before the magic date. As it stands now, we are SOL. Jim ------------------

I've noticed that the new Tosh's are MUCH lighter than the current models. I was sharing this with my dealer and we couldn't figure out what they could have done to lose so much weight. Then it hit me....(and I hope I'm wrong)....maybe Tosh is going to use mylar in place of the current heavy...

Michael, That is good news. I've always liked the Pioneer sets, but the progressive lock issue was a deal breaker for me when I decided to buy last fall. It will be interesting to see how the new Pioneer sets compete in price. Currently, they have failed to keep up with the competition. Jim

Mitsubishi also gives you aspect control with progressive signals with one exception; the stetch mode for 4:3 material is not available with a progressive signal. All modes are available on the Toshibas with a progressive signal. For some reason unknown to me, Pioneer still has the progressive...

Toshiba also offers an extended warranty plan that I believe is cheaper than what you listed. If you want such a plan, I would check out what Toshiba has to offer. Jim

It's a matter of personal taste. Try looking at a variety of sizes at your viewing distance and see what you like. Also, the quality of the signal being viewed can have an affect on this. Keep in mind what types of signals you most watch when deciding on a size. In the end, you may have to...

I am also waiting to hear if anyone has confirmed this. My 40H80 was manufactured in Dec. 2000. Using Star Trek Insurrection it is apparent that it does not use 3:2 pulldown detection (or if it does, not very well). There is a very obvious difference between using the TV's internal doubler...

Pete, The problem with my Tosh 40H80 was that it would often reset to the 4x3 mode and would lose it's clock settings. Also, sometimes the power light would come on, but no picture. When this happened it would not respond to any remote commands or buttons on the front of the set. I noticed...

I've noticed that about 20% the time I power up my 40H80, I will hear some extra clicks and the set reverts back to the 4:3 mode. Also when this happens, it loses it's clock setting. On one occasion, the power light came on, but no picture or sound. At that point it would not let me turn off...
