"Near Dark". When I started play, the A1 didn't give me the warning message and automatic switchover to 480p output resolution. The upconversion was beautiful.
It will upconvert anything that is not copy protected. I am watching it via component since my 6-year-old Pioneer has only component inputs. If I insert a copy protected SC disc, I get a warning message followed by an automatic switchover to 480p.
Congratulations Jim, I was able to use the 12% off coupon on the player also but the "10% off movies, music and software" coupon says "no new releases". The BB St. Petersburg computer wouldn't give me the discount on any HD-DVDs. :frowning: I'm feeding my Pro-510HD that has only component...
Ron, Thanks for the review. You pushed me off the fence. I have an A1 sitting in the van :) while I "try" to finish my work day :frowning: I was going to boycott this stupid greed format war but decided to support the format I think is being done right. Have a great weekend in your home...
Thanks to their repeated stupidity, I won't be buying "Summer of the Monkeys" and "Tom & Huck". They're full screen. Thank God for my widescreen laserdisc of T&H. Thanks Disney. You saved me from previously buying "Heavyweights", "First Kid", plus others like "Snow Dogs".
Thanks for the great review. I am fortunate to own the laserdisc of the concert and have worn it out. It runs 175 minutes on 4 sides. I don't know if I want to pay that much for the DVD but the improved picture quality and DTS may be worth it. Of the performances listed that are not on DVD, the...
He is an incredible young actor. I still think he should have received the best supporting Oscar from Sixth Sense. A.I. was completely passed-over in this year's Oscars.
He recently starred in a film set during World War II that was shot in Poland titled "Edges of the Lord." Here is a link...
This DVD is replacing my laserdisc copy. The anamorphic widescreen transfer is very nice. And the soundtrack is Dolby Digital 5.1 (not mentioned on the cover art). I also enjoyed all the bonus material very much. Select subtitle 4 to view the sing-along lyrics.

Actually, it's a preference in the DVD Profiler program. By default, the program treats unrated titles as adult. If you allow adult titles on the web site, then every time someone visits it they'll have to dismiss the "STOP - This page may contain adult information ..." before viewing your...
Yes. It's called color-stripe Macrovision. Most DVDs are encoded to turn on the Macro encoder in your DVD player. It is not actually encoded on the disc itself. A few music videos and test discs are not coded.

P.S. Why in God's name would you want to degrade the superb quality of a...
This is the reason I had secretly hoped DVD would not become a mass-market item. I kind of liked the niche market that the laserdisc served. No J6Ps to worry about.
It came by UPS Blue on Friday to my sheer delight. I purchased it from J&R Music World for $329 plus shipping. Didn't get a chance to hook it up until 9:30 PM last night. So, I haven't had much time to play. SACDs definitely sound wonderful . Maybe I'll get a chance to read the manual...
