Thanks, Brandon, for putting it in proper perspective. I remember similar sentiment regarding the first Blu-ray of The Fifth Element. I was just so blown away by the improvement over DVD that I didn't really notice what others were complaining about.
Are you planning on buying either set? If...
Digital Bits has weighed in and they said Wrath of Khan is spectacular, but the rest have been "cleaned up" with DNR (is that the same process used by IMAX?). The gist was that the new Blu-rays are better than the SCE Dvds, unless you have a screen over 50", because the image is so soft.
So...
Me too, Bradley. Last night, a friend linked me to the YouTube clip of Helen Sharp in the psych ward and I couldn't stop laughing. I noticed that the clip has thirty thousand views - not a bad number... there must be a market out there for this over-looked jem. And 50M in box office receipts...
POTC - Curse of the Black Pearl looks and sounds great running 1080p to the Sony Pearl and PCM 5.1 out on the BDP-S1. This is one of the best discs I've seen to date. I've only watched about 20 minutes, after having to upgrade the firmware to 1.60. Seems the BD-Java apps that run the menus...
RE: Switching Audio Tracks on the fly:
I am able to. From the main menu, I choose Play Movie.
Don't choose Setup.
Then press the audio button on your remote to page through the audio tracks. You can also choose Subtitles On/Off at this point.
Let me know if this works for you.
BTW...
This version of the film makes we want to say, "Well this is more like it!" The theatrical version left me exhausted, the pace was relentless. This version leaves me exhilarated. In order to turn in a film that runs under 3 hours, Peter Jackson had to edit the film down to its bare...
I'm REALLY excited about a director's cut. Do you think we might get to hear Ben Affleck say "You're soooo beautiful!" more than three measly times!
Okay, sorry for the thread crapping. Let me have it. I deserve it.
Alan, thank you for your kind comments about Gypsy Boys. Although I disagree with you on some points, I do wish that the film was a bit tighter and resembled the script more. The best laid plans have a way of going astray when you don't have the resources to fix them.
I thought you might be...
Re Gypsy Boys:
Alan, I was involved with the making of Gypsy Boys, (Brian Shepp is one of my close friends), and I can tell you that the actual on screen budget was equal to what was spent on the eight minute short, "George Lucas in Love".
The film was a labor of love -- many of us put in our...
Laserdisc is still alive and well here.
I've been having regular screenings for many of my neighbors' kids this summer. Now that they all have DVD, they were VERY excited to discover that I had the following titles on LAserdisc that they couldn't get on DVD:
STAR WARS Episodes 1,4,5,6
Indiana...
Greg's list is good. I'd like to add:
Dead Ringers - I still can't watch it again.
Aliens
Das Kabinett des Doktor Caligari (1920)
The Thing (both versions)
Pleasant dreams...
Mark, I KNOW you don't believe everything that you hear from a director or actors regarding their sexual orientation. Let me just leave it at that. I don't want to get anyone pissed off at me, but just remember this: Actors are STILL afraid to admit to being gay. I get quite a kick out of Nick...
Mark, Steve, & Alan:
I agree that it's frustrating to listen to remarks like RobV's again and again. I sat looking at my screen dumfounded, because I was so excited about sharing my experience with Queer As Folk. And I thought, "Oh here we go again. My post will now get ignored because the...
Damn, I just found out from C1TV that QAF episodes 5-8 aren't out in region 1 yet.
Rob, you pose several questions that need answering:
Question 1. "but why is everyone so concerned with gay this and gay that in our society in regards to every friggin' aspect of our lives ??"
IMO, we live in...
I know that the DVDs of the British TV Show Queer as Folk have already been discussed, but I just saw them last night and had to make this post.
Wow! Easily one of the best shows I have ever seen. I can't even find the words to express how highly I regard the series. I wish american television...
