I would politely disagree, the home theater community is better off for the stand that Mr. Hunt took, much as it is far better off for the stand that he took in 1998-99 against the Divx format. I don't seem to remember much criticism of Mr. Hunt for taking that stand.
Are the Sony and Samsung players you've mentioned able to pass the TrueHD or DTS HD signal to a reciever that can decode it? I havent' been able to get the answer to that question. Regards, Jason
I've looked around quite a bit this weekend and every store from Best Buy to Wal Mart has multiple PS3's gathering dust. Not just 20 gig models either. The local Wal Mart had at least 5 60 gig models just sitting there. I don't profess to be much of an expert but that doesn't appear to bode...
Alright, I've got a Samsung 4092 720p set. I'm planning to use component cables with an optical cable on the PS 3 right now (I'm not ready to start tearing out drywall just yet). Am I going to have any issues with playing blu-ray movies?
Thanks,
Jason
I'm in the middle of new construction without an unlimited budget. I am not going the HD-DVD (or Blu-Ray) route just yet so I'm trying to decide whether to use an HDMI connection for just a hi-def satellite receiver and a DVD player. My question is whether it is worth the extra cost to use...
I just purchased the new JVC plug n play at Best Buy. I love the size and shape of it due to the way that I've got it mounted on my dash. The only problem is that it has 18 presets as opposed to 30 on the previous model. Believe it or not, those 12 presets make a significant difference.
Saw an advertisement for this player today, DVDAudio, SACD, BASS MANAGEMENT!!!!, Progressive. All of this for under $200. Anyone heard about or seen this one? If so, where can I get one?
Just saw a story on DVD Answers regarding a Field of Dreams SE due in June. Any word on additional SE's of some of Universal's first DVD offerings, specifically Tremors and Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story?
USA Today (9/15/03) indicated that the trailer is gonig to be shown starting 9/26, just as the conventional wisdom had indicated. What it doesn't indicate is whether the trailer will be available for download from the LOTR website. Anyone got any additional info?
Perhaps the only thing that could be added is the E! True Hollywood Story on Jaws. While not as good as the LD doc, it was very informative and quite different.
If Universal can release Ultimate Editions of crap like Notting Hill and Meet Joe Black, the surely they can recycle all of the extras from the Signature Collection LD and include the original Mono track. It was absolutely amazing to hear the original track in the theater again...;)
I was fortunate enough to see Jaws on the big screen this weekend. Thank God for classic midnight movies. It had been many, many years and I was shocked at how well the original mono track holds up (even now). The new effects track is truly a bastardization. Since 2005 is the 30th...
There is a big difference between being an "amateur filmmaker" and directing a big budget feature film. No studio in their right minds is going to risk this gem on a first-time director.
Something tells me that, ultimately, there won't be much that was filmed that won't be in some version of films on DVD. I'm sure that once ROTK is out, both theatrical and EE, that we'll get a 20 disc "Extra-Special, Super-Duper, Uber-Monumental, Gandalf Autographed, Extended-Extended"...
