Any Philips experts? 34pw850h? Service Mode?

I have a problem. My new Philips 34PW850H locks the screen mode (IE 4:3, widescren etc..) to widescreen for any 480p or 1080i source. This is fine for 1080i but I play XBOX games that run in 480p and not all of them have a widescreen mode. For the games that are not 16:9 I have to either deal...

    HDTV image convertor

No idea on price. I'm glad to see that such a prouduct is available. Now if I could get one for $199 or less i'd spring for it. Converting progressive-scan DVD to 1080i would be sweet. Not to mention Xbox games.

    AVIA vs Video Essentials

The pros can say what they want but I just use AVIA for correct color temp and brightness. Everything else I leave up to my personal taste. Avia is a little easier to use

    Prog-scan games and tv settings

My tosh x81 has two settings for the Component inputs; DVD and DTV. When I'm playing a game in 480p mode should I have the setting on DTV? Is 480p a DTV signal? Or only 780p and 1080i. Thanks

    Tosh x81 DTV setting

The DTV setting is confusing me. Should I select this for a 480p source like say a prog-scan DVD player or game system, or is it solely for a DTV reciever? Isn't 480p a DTV signal? In trying both I really can't tell. When I select DTV the image is much brighter so I bring down the...

    Tosh 40x81 and Nintendo Gamecube

Jeff, My 480p was screwd up too. I did a convergence for it in the service mode and it looks great. Problem is game systems seem to have no over-scan. The 4x3 image is exactly that and you can see some weird things on the sides because of it. Don't forget some games are 16x9!

    Tosh 40x81 and Nintendo Gamecube

Actually on this set the setting does affect the signal. You can noice that the image gets brighter when you select DTV. I'm sure it's showing the progessive signal I just think one may be a better setting.

    Tosh 40x81 and Nintendo Gamecube

Some games on my GameCube output a 480p signal. 480p is considered an HDTV signal so should I change the Colorstream input that it using to DTV from DVD? Infact if your using any 480p device should the Colorstream type for that input on the TV be changed to DTV? Or is DTV only for DTV...

    ISF calibration question

I want to get my tosh 40x81 set calibrated. I don't have any HDTV devices currently but will be getting a Nintendo Gamecube in November that has games which support 480p output. I'll probably get a progreesive scan DVD player this christmas aswell. My question is: should I wait to get the...

    4:3 HDTV's

Aren't 4:3 HDTV's a contradiction? I mean isn't an HDTV signal 16x9? Will these 4:3 sets that display 480p and up signals, have to show black bars when showing a true HDTV broadcast? Will some HDTV broadcass be 4:3? I'm confused....

    Grayscale help (tw40x81)

Why yes MR White it is your website that I read this on. I now have gone 2 days with what I feel is a gray-gray image. The first few nights I'd go to bed thinking I was done only to turn the set on the next day and see the 3 stooges with green faces. I'm happy with results, this is a...

    Grayscale help (tw40x81)

I'm adjusting the color trimpots located on the front of the tw40x81. I have read so many positive responses on the Herman_tlv manuver that I thought I should try it. I recently have read a post were a couple of guys have made it a bit easier by posting what should be the perfect service...

    Grayscale help (tw40x81)

When eyeballing the grayscale (I'll get it calibrated someday)is it safe to say that it is not perfect until all color temps (warm, medium, cool) look right? I seem to have a great picture in meduim, and cool but warm looks too blue (warm should have a red push right?). I've been adjusting the...

    Help! ISF or Progressive scan

Thanks for the info. My ISF guy charges $300 just for the grayscale. Convergence is extra. I have no idea how good he is but I did get him from the ISF website list of trained dealers (a little out of date by the way) and he has worked on my set many times.
