I have a Salamander TV35 stand with Saturn casters with my 36" XBR250. It's rated at 300 lbs while the SVDO is rated at 350. I don't think you should have any problems. The casters are cast aluminum and can hold a huge amount of weight; I had the TV and 40 pounds of center channel speaker on...
With respect to video games and burn-in, the Pioneer is no different than any other brand. Most widescreen RPTV manufacturers suggest you either do not play games on it or at least limit it. The Pioneer's variable gray bars help reduce 4:3 burn-in better than most sets. The owner's manual...
I saw a very nice setup program a few days ago that should answer your question exactly. It was the THX Optimode setup screens on the recent Speed:SE DVD. They have screens that are different than anything I've seen on Avia or VE. First, there is a screen that contains 6 or so different...
$7500 is an OK price, better than any B&M retailers. You might want to double check that warrantee claim with Sharp, as Doug_B is right: Sharp does not authorize Internet sales. If you want to try for the cheapest gray-market, get a Japanese Sharp from pricejapan.com. They are only about $5K...
You missed my point. My point is that this percentage area is a totally meaningless yardstick. If you primarily watch 4:3 material, even to the point of watching more 16:9 than 4:3, you'll never justify a 16:9 set with this method of comparison. ...As evidenced in the original post.
Does this...
I see your point, but I don't buy that this is a valid comparison either. You are comparing screen area (or diagonal measurments) on sets with two different aspect ratios, so you are really comparing apples and oranges. Of course a 16:9 TV will lose out every time, because the screen is really...
Mystery is SOLVED...
The sound card that Dell is currently putting is their machines is NOT capable of 5.1. I selected the lowest end card with the lowest end speakers (since I wasn't planning to use them), and as a result the card I got is capable of 4 channel surround, max.
I bought an...
Mike,
It's pretty close, but not exactly like that. I guess the important parts (the connectors on the back of the card) are the same.
Upon further checking, it appears to a SBLive Value, not a SBLive 5.1 card. I say this because there is no "Decode AC3" option in the software like there...
I'm trying to put together an HTPC. It's a brand new Dell 8200, which came with a SB Live sound card. I'm guessing this card is 5.1 capable. (?) The PC is running WinXP Pro and I've installed the latest SB drivers from the MS website.
I've connected the digital out of the card to one of my...
FYI,
I just rigged up my theater room with 15 meter composite, S-video, and component cables from my equipment racks to my RPTV. The cables are BetterCables Silver Serpents and I would bet that the picture quality is as good as or better than the 2 meter Monster M1000 silver component cables I...
Not true. You can buy as much stuff as you want in Delaware and bring it back. There used to be a big fine for bringing back liquor, but that was changed years ago. The only thing you'll pay sales tax on is cars (when you go to register it). I buy everything in Delaware, cars included...
I lined my 510 with Duvetyne, and I thought the difference was fairly dramatic. The black paint on the inside of the set is fairly glossy, so I did have a problem with halos. The Duvetyne definitely fixed the halo problem, and the constrast is improved.
However, I would recommend you only do...
David,
I had a Sony similar to yours. The easiest way I found to get the correct contrast is with the Video Essentials montage. Go to the scene where the camera is panning across a bridge, where you are looking up at the bridge from the ground. Adjust up the contrast until you can just...
You might want to get a set of banana plugs that can handle 2 12ga wires. I use Vampire Wire (www.vampirewire.com) single and double bananas (model SB and DB) with bi-wired 12ga wire. Very good quality. The SB model feels like a solid chunk of gold, and you can daisy chain them if you want...
Yes! Most players (especially different brands) will look different. Perhaps it wasn't necessary, but I had my calibration done twice because I switched brands.
The previous post is correct in that amps can make your signal look worse. If you have long runs of coax (50-100+ft) then they will help, but over-boosting the signal when you don't need to will distort the picture. You'll get "tearing" or other artifacts.
