I just realized I have two apparently different versions of the Alien Anthology in my Blu-ray collection (guessing I got one as a gift, and filed it away since I already had it in my collection)
.The packaging between the two is not quite the same: one set is noticeably "slimmer" (viewed along...
I have been very happy with my JVC 56FH97 RPTV for 6 years now however the original bulb is finally dying and I also have the light engine "dingies" and blobs beginning to appear, so I figure it's time to upgrade versus plopping a new bulb in only to watch the light engine blobs just get bigger...
Thanks Gregg - sheesh, that's good in a way I suppose (not a light engine or set power supply issue) but not so good also, since it started doing this within only a few months of purchase (maybe 6 months tops) after the software update on my sat receiver, and the set was only ever used with the...
I bought a JVC 56FH97 set new a few years ago, and used it with HDMI connected HD satellite and a component cable connected progressive scan DVD player. I initially calibrated the set with the user menu settings using some settings I found online, properly disabling all the "smart picture" and...
Hmmm....these rigs do look interesting....I'm more than happy with my "old-school" RX-V995 after 7 years but the lipsynch issue since I went to a JVC 56 HD 1080p set and HD satellite can be VERY annoying at times, and the delay boxes are cheaper than buying a new receiver "now" that does not...
A trip into a local JVC retailer solved one mystery - the "96" models are actually LAST YEAR's models in Canada, while the "97" series is the "new" JVC model line. They did have pricing for the 56 and the 70 incher, however, they did not have any pricing available from JVC Canada on the...
What are the differences between JVC's FH and FN series 1080p sets? I'm specifically looking at the 56 inch and 61 inch models. Also, it sorta looks like in Canada all JVC is offering is the FH series in "96" and "97" models? Is this just the Canadian version of the US "FH" vs "FN" designations?
I "felt" this too while watching the movie - in fact, it was apparent in the Vice TV special that aired last weekend that Fox and Farrell cohosted...Farrell seemed to have this "just get me off the stage and away from this guy" thing going on.
I really found the acting quite poor in this overall...which is a shame since almost all of these folks cast as main characters have respectable talents IMHO. I felt the most "believable" performance was from John Hawkes ("Alonzo") in the first segment of the main story.
Saw it at an afternoon showing...the first thing I noticed was how "grainy" almost all of the nightime shots looked, and how the level of graininess was not really consistent and seemed to vary with the presence or absence of anything brightly "lit" on screen at the same time (even scenes where...
Hmmm a bit more research and I may be ruling out the JVC "Full HD" sets already - seems they cannot accept a "true" 1080p input and instead perform some upconversion scaling for their 1080p display....my whole goal with a 1080p set is some level of future-proofing for 1080p sources...
Looking very hard at one of these sets: Samsung HLR 6168 JVC HD56FH96 or HD61FH96 The Sammy is definitely the cheaper-advertised set locally by a few hundred bucks, which is why I'm not sure if I go JVC if I'd go for the 61 or the 56...plus 61 will be HUGE in the room (primary seating...
Basically I was thinking about just getting a 32inch 4:3 CRT flatscreen (non HDTV) to replace my old 27inch Mitsu as a temporary thing till I go bigscreen, but the 32 direct view sets (JVC and Toshiba) with a stand are only about $200 LESS than this Magnavox is selling for now with the sale....
Seems like consumer electronics "follows the leader" - cellphones started going silver a few years back and not long after so did car audio, home stereo, TVs, etc. On the good news front, dark colours for cellphones are coming back - not so much just plain "blacks", but dark shades like...
I did a search and only found a handful of posts about this budget HDTV set from back in 2004....it's got my eye now due to the recent sale price at FutureShop - $999 CDN, discounted from $1299. With 480p/1080i, other than no HDMI/DVI inputs (component only) any major issues with this set? I'd...
The only major difference I can spot between these is the lens/CRT technology - "Shortwing Advanced Lens Technology" on the cheaper HX84 versus "Pegasus-IV CRT with Niltava Advanced Lens Technology" on the twice the price (almost $3K CDN more expensive) HX93...or am I missing something? Also...
My father is a huge opera fan, and by association/immersion while I was growing up I've come to know a little bit about it, but am by no means an expert or very well versed in which works with which performers are considered the "essential" operas to own for opera fanatics. So I'm looking for...

I saw that one on Amazon.com....unfortunately Amazon.ca does not have it, and I'm not confident Amazon.com will ship it to me in Canada after they refused to ship a CD my dad wanted due to copyright restrictions (it could not be sold legally to anyone outside the USA) that the US site had listed...
I have FINALLY found some e-tailers that indicate they have this disc in stock (long story: in the fall of 2002 I ordered it from DVD-Depot in the hopes of having it for Christmas 2002 with the family, and it was backordered until I had enough waiting and cancelled the order just this past...
Hmmm so is there any network HDTV programming that is actually 16:9 format and carried as such by ExpressVu? I suppose another way to look at it is the Tosh TV itself is great, but I might as well hold off on an HDTV satellite receiver until there is more 16:9 content out there...which makes...
Wow..."they" (TV/electronics makers, broadcasters, and signal providers) really need to make this whole HDTV thing a lot simpler if they want any sort of mass market take up. I never would have thought of the "4:3 HDTV" issue since I never realized there was such a thing as anything other than...
The prices on these sets are getting awfully tempting now...and I'm guessing they might be even more so after Christmas.... :emoji_thumbsup: Probably 75% of my critical viewing with this set will be DVD, remaining 20% high-def once I get an HDTV satellite receiver (come on ExpressVu!!) and...
Supposedly the 50HDX82's are no longer in stock at the warehouses, so what's out there is all there is now from Toshiba Canada's point of view...this is what my local retailer claimed when they called to inquire on the availability of the new "X83" models. I am holding off for the 51HX83 to see...
It will be interesting to see what the new 51HX83 has to offer over the 50HDX82 and for what street price differential (especially since I'm sure the "leftover" HDX82's will be dropping a bit when the new models begin to arrive). The HDX82 seems to have everything I want (other than the...
