Beign on short budget before new mortgage, I can't get one of those nice ES SACD players. So I decided to check entry level player and if it stands out, I'll keep it for mean time.
My previous CD players were el'cheapo JVC and Sony 5-d carousels; only way to listen to those is through digital...
That definitely has to bested and would depend on player. A while ago I was searching info on mini-DVD (DVD content burned on CD-R; I wanted to make collection of DD,DTD and THX trailers) and found that only Pioneer player were able to read those discs. In the end it all depends on how firmware...
I use ZOOM mode for 4:3 material on my Panny 47". It doesn't distort the image, but crops top and bottom parts, and TV allows to scroll picture vertically.

Thanks, Michael. That's what we call historical documents.
> How do you like your Sub? Did you purchase it at costco?
Yes, Bruce, 289$CDN I doubt you can find anything close in quality for this price. I am tempted to try D-Box new...
Arthur, I ordered Outlaw from Canada. They use Fedex, about 40$ shipping, ICBM should be less as it's not so heavy.

New TV and new furniture are in place.
Sorry, picture quality is lousy, because I had only digital camcorder to take shots.
Sorry, but somehow traffic limit is exceeded on my geocities account. So, go here for pictures , it's a mirror.

Plus 5.1 sound on some of those if you'll be given proper cable box with digital output.

Since first days of DVD players they all played PAL VCDs. I have quite a few Russian movies on VCD and all of them look just fine on NTSC TVs.

A little correction to Steven's meaninless statement.
Not all non-English speaking countries use Unicode (actually, no European) since all additional characters such as Cyrillic or German umlauts fit into 255 characters along with English alphabet.

Jack, most likely that your set-top box adds some degradation into TV signal since analog channels are still analog despite you are watching them in bedroom or living room. Mono and stereo issue sounds like configuration problem in your set-top box. If you have GI box, default sound setting is...
I have RP91 and 1050 combo - they work good together. And I prefer to use 5.1 inputs on receiver for everything that comes out of DVD player. Decoder in player itself is comparable to one in receiver plus you taking advantage of getting matrixed 6.1 DTS. So, in the end you have 3 spare digital...
Yes, their site looks very expensive (love that Oracle turntable). But you can talk with the owner about the price (it's not FS), you may try to get no-tax discount on cash deal or so.

Here is a question. I need a power bar which can be turned on/off by a remote control. Is a X10 route is the only way to go here? I have Cinema7 and Sony vl900, so remote itself is not important for me as I should be able to teach vl900. What would be the cheapest way (maybe DIY) to get this...
Procedure, probably, wasn't very clear. Through service menu you can't adjust 480p controls, so set user controls for DVD 480p. Then go into service menu and adjust sub-settings for TV 480i - this seems not to affect DVD input.
So, now TV and DVD should decent and you don't have to change user...
Go to user menu, Convergence 1, first step. There is a green cross, move it to align with marks on the cabinet.

My PT47 arrived yesterday. I confirm Jonny's statement that you can adjust sub-settings in service menu for different inputs. I've set color and tint for TV and component 1 to different levels and both look fine now.

Don't worry Mark, most of us were in your shoes. At least now job of convergence alignment is much easier than before. My first RPTV was analog Sony, and that was real pain to put all of those color lines together. My Panny should arrive in a couple of weeks, can't wait much longer...
