Scott: You said: "Simply run the analog connections to your receiver and the HDMI directly to your TV. Turn the speakers off on your TV, and configure the analog 7.1 outputs of the Blu-ray player appropriately to pass the lossless audio and you should be all set." I have a Denon BluRay...
Well, I answered my own question about the 4806 - I need a "CI" upgrade to allow the receiver to decode the higher definition audio signals. So, my remaining questions are: 1. Does RGB output a better picture signal than HDMI to the Panny? 2. When I choose the higher audio definition...
Kevin, Would you mind telling me how to upgrade as you suggest? Also, would you (or any other reader) offer some advice on video output choices from my 3800 to my Panny? The 3800 gives you two options: HDMI video or RGB video. I don't know which is better, but I DO know that using the RGB...
Guys, thanks for the responses. I feel stupid for even posting this thread, as I did not realize at the time that the AVR 4806 does not even support the new BluRay high definition sound formats such as TrueHD or DTS-HD. Thus, whether I use digital or RCA connections (one HDMI cable or 6...
Thanks, Alon. So what you are telling me is that I need to get 6 "RCA" type cables and connect them from the DVD player to the receiver (I have a 5.1 speaker system), and then use "Ext. In" for the input selection on my receiver to hear "true" HD sound? This (not you - the procedure)...
I apologize if this has already been discussed. I searched first before posting. I received the 3800 as a gift, so I did not research the machine specs before receiving it. I discovered that it does not have an eternet port, nor (and this is the "sore point" for me, a Denon Link). I have a...
Hi Gregg: I have a new Panny PXU50 plasma that needs calibrating. All components (Dish, DirecTv, and Denon DVD player) are connected via a Gefen 4x1 HDMI switcher to the one HDMI input on my plasma. Therefore, I suppose there would be only one input-calibration (of course, the Denon has its...
Well, I think it is fixed "again" . . . I called Gefen and they acknowledged a problem existed. They suggested that I toggle the equalizer knobs for each HDMI input by turning it until the picture disappears, and then turning it the opposite way until the picture reappears. Although the EQ...
:frowning: THOUGHT the problem was fixed . . . This is really frustrating - I purchased a Gefen HDMI switcher to replace the 4x1 DVI switcher in an attempt to eliminate any "DVI-to-HDMI conversion" issues, and I am STILL having the same problem. Denon 3910 DVD player - video dropout...
Fixed . . . For some unexplainable reason, the DVI switcher would not pass the HDMI/HDCP signal through the DVI ports - except for one: the Denon 3910 player. I had to purchase a 3x1 HDMI Gefen switcher. Now, all works well. Thanks for looking and responding. Merry Christmas, Sam
I apologize if this has already been covered. Today, I replaced my Hitachi 42HDT plasma with a Panny TH-50PX50U. The Panny has only ONE digital video input: HDMI. The Hitachi had only one digital video input: DVI. My "player" components are a Denon 3910 DVD player with DVI output, a...
You beat me to the punch - I was about to say that I went and pulled out the DVD after Tag's link did not help much, and watched the scene. I am fairly certain it is this one: http://www.jomashop.com/ct1111-ba0550.html Again, thanks.
Thanks, Jeremy. Unfortunately, Tag does not mention the type of Link Chronograph in the photo, and there is a difference of about $2000 between two watches that MIGHT be the one he is wearing . . . Again, many thanks for helping out.
Hello: I have a relative who is a die-hard fan of the Bourne movies and he "absolutely, must have" the type of watch (if affordable :) ) worn by actor Matt Damon in the movies. I have searched and searched for an answer, and cannot find it. Does anyone know? And I apologize in...
Allan: I forgot to mention that I have all of my components connected to my plasma via a 4x1 DVI switcher. Question: I don't understand what you mean by calibrating color with one type of input (component) and then performing additional calibration using another type of input (S-Video)...
I have a Hitachi 42HDT50 plasma with the following components attached: VOOM receiver upconverting to 1080i Hughes HD-HTL receiver upconverting to 1080i Denon 5900 DVD player upconverting to 720p After an ISF calibration (which I am very pleased with - this is not a complaint with the...
This was the FIRST episode where I truly, truly disliked Tony Soprano. Look up the word "sadist" in the dictionary and his picture should be next to it. Unfortunately, I KNOW people like him - people who cannot stand the idea of someone else with a problem, actually resolving their issues and...
My Trilogy set (that is, Fall and El Cid) are both anamorphic and DD. As I mentioned previously, I cannot get my player to play 55 Days. Roland - I think that based on Ken's and my posts about the presentation of Fall, it is fair to assume that the DVD version you purchased is different...
Don't know, Roland. The cover for the link you posted is entirely different from the cover that comes with the DVD in the Trilogy set. Then again, the Trilogy has an outer shell/cover that necessitates a different type of cover for each individual DVD.
Sorry for not following up on the thread, guys. It was dormant for so long, that I never bothered checking back in this particular part of the forum to see if anyone ever replied (and I usually do not activate the email notification for posts to my threads). Also, I left my digital camera...
I am new to the Soprano threads, but I cannot help but mention this as I am still laughing. The scene where Finn (Phin sp?) spots Vito in the parking lot having "sausage" - my wife had a mouth full of macroni and cheese from Church's Fried Chicken (think of KFC of the South) and spit most of...

Ironically (and causing dismay on my part), my Denon 5900 DVD player will NOT play 55 Days at Peking, stating that it is the "wrong region". Yet, the other two of the "trilogy" of this set are also labeled region 3 and they played fine . . .
I searched to see if this had been posted/covered in another thread, but my search yielded no results. You can purchase all of these movies (55 Days at Peking, The Fall of the Roman Empire, and El Cid) in a boxset entitled "Epic Trilogy" from www.koreandvds.com. As far as quality, they are...
On the right, front panel of your Motorola receiver, you will find a flip-down cover. When you flip it down, you will see a red button. Pushing it will change the resolution sent to your display: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and native. Notice on the front of your receiver that whenever you push the...
Chris - I don't just mean stations that choose to "falsely" upconvert non-HD signals just to fill the screen of a 16x9 screen (e.g., ESPN HD, and even my local channels that run a continuous "HD" feed). I am referring to what seems to me to be a station's or a channel's engineer's inability...
If this has been covered in another thread or should be somewhere else, I apologize - MY search did not find anything akin to this subject. I have a fully, set-up HDTV theater as far as signals and display devices (Hitachi's latest plasma, Denon's 5900 DVD player, Hughes HD-HTL DirecTV...
Someone in the other forum posted a website that answered my problem - I just ordered it - seems to fit the bill perfectly: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1819 Regards, Sam
Is there a significant difference in picture quality between DVI and component HDTV reproduction? I have never had more than one HDTV unit, so I could never do a sid-by-side comparison. After posting, I ran across a thread in another forum (now I lost the link) where I "THINK" I saw that some...
I posted this in two forums: TV/Displays and Tweaks, Connections, as it seems it fits in both and I don't want to miss out on experts in both forums having an opportunity to respond. I currently have DirecTv and will keep it because of the TIVO compatability with DirecTv. Next week, I am...
