    Any thunderstorm enthusiasts here?

I *used* to love thunderstorms, until our house was struck by lightning about 20 feet above our bed. It blew a 4 foot hole in the roof, split a roof rafter in half lengthwise, and peppered the ridge with little holes. I was picking up shards of cedar shingles, tar paper, and plywood for weeks...

Need help with what appears to be "burn in" with TW40X81/RP91

Well, I have noticed a few differences with the DVD player since updating the firmware, but I haven't recalibrated yet, so I can't say for sure that everything is okay. But, this problem was an obvious one to my eye, and it has most definitely disappeared.

Need help with what appears to be "burn in" with TW40X81/RP91

Here's an update to my problem that I thought I'd post, just in case it may help someone else out there... I was at the local Tweeter this weekend and mentioned my problem to one of sales guys. He said "hmm, sounds just like something related to 3:2 pulldown". Well, that piqued my interest...

Need help with what appears to be "burn in" with TW40X81/RP91

Thanks Steve, I actually didn't realize that burn-in would be dark areas against light backgrounds, I was thinking the opposite, which is what I am seeing. I first noticed the problem while viewing Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, because there are many night scenes. The rectangles are always...

Need help with what appears to be "burn in" with TW40X81/RP91

Hello all, I have what appears to be burn in on my TW40X81, however I'm not totally convinced of it. Here's my situation - I would appreciate any input that anyone may have: - There are three areas, roughly 4-6 inches square, that appear at the very top of the screen. - The first is...

    Coffee vultures

I think this is a common gripe with most office workers, as well as bathroom etiquette, noise makers, loud talkers, music, etc. The list goes on. I've noticed that the early risers seem to be more considerate when it comes to making coffee, perhaps because they realize the value of a cup of...

Oddest Last Names You've Come Across

I once knew a girl whose last name was Pekar, and her father owned a liquor store (it's still there, btw). Pekar Liquors. ;) The ironic thing is she was a nymphomaniac. :D

    what my professor said:

Knowing nothing more about the teacher than what you state in your post, I would take the statement as a challenge, and use it to motivate myself when studying. How gratifying it might be to ace that exam, no?

What do you guys do with leftover pizza?

I live in a family of firefighters, and the "firehouse" method of reheating pizza is to put it in a cast iron skillet, covered, over low heat. The pizza will come out of the pan like it came out of the box. My variation (to speed the process along) is to nuke it to get the cheese and toppings...

    Black bar on TNN gone?

Yep, I noticed it, too. I actually watched an episode of ST:TNG instead of quickly flipping past.

    Puzzler of the Day!

Hi Jin, I've seen this one before, and I believe the solution is along the lines... Spoiler:... by virtue of the various building blocks that form the triangle, the edge that forms the hypotenuse of the right triange is not perfectly straight. Rather, it bows in on the top picture and bows...

    I wish I could speak/write this good

Frank, I'll help you start... it's "well", I wish I could speak/write this well. :) (I'm ribbing you... I make the mistake all the time) And frankly, I do, too. I believe Leonard's column is syndicated, as I've seen his writing in the Chicago Tribune, also. But, he sure summed up what many...

In light of US tragedy, I need sports. I hope games resume soon.

I understand the need to mourn and I'm feeling the same emotions as many of us here on the HTF are feeling, but the bottom line is that every day we let pass while immobilized with fear is another victory for the terrorists. I'll take the contrarian view to most in this thread that, out of...

    Kellogg's Krave Bar....

I've got a Chocolate Peanut Krave bar sitting right here in front of me... has been for weeks. Yet, I can't get myself to eat this Krave bar, nor will I chuck it (no pun) in the trash, for some reason. Seems this Krave bar has a similar spell on me, yet different. :)

progressive scan dvd / is it worth it?

Jason, You didn't mention which Panasonic player you currently own, but I've recently upgraded from a Panasonic A-110 to the RP91 for my Tosh TW40X81. Not only did I benefit from the improved progressive video and all that it brings, but the new player was a giant improvement in audio as well...

Television Preview - Is this for real, or is it a marketing gimmick?

Thanks for the replies, guys - it is as I suspected. The letter mentions "approximately $250 in attendance prizes will be awarded", which sounds to me like 250 $1 trinkets await the attendees.

Television Preview - Is this for real, or is it a marketing gimmick?

I received a letter and four tickets to "participate in a survey whose findings will directly influence what you see on television in the future". This came from: Television Preview Audience Selection Staff P.O. Box 710 Hollywood, CA 90078 Is this legit? Or is it a way to get unsuspecting...

Is there a significant difference to warrant a "electrostatic and mechanical focus "?

John, In my experience with a TW40X81, the difference was significant. The image was noticably more crisp and 3D in appearance. Matt

    Problem with 40H80!!

Peter, I had a similar problem with my first TW40X81 after about six months of ownership. It began one evening while watching with the picture turning off, but the set remained on. The red power light blinked, and the set would not respond to the remote OR the power switch - I had to cycle...

    Visio 40H80/56H80 convergence overlays

Just a couple of things worth checking out... Kinko's had CorelDraw version 9. I had version 8 at work, and it didn't convert Visio files. Can someone with version 9 check to see if it can read a Visio file? If so, doing what I did would not be necessary - just download the Visio files and...

    Visio 40H80/56H80 convergence overlays

Thought I would share my experience getting these templates printed... I call the Kinkos in my area and asked if they can print Visio, which they said they could not. So, I saved the Visio diagrams as Adobe Illustrator files and opened/saved them in CorelDraw, which Kinkos has. I took my...
