Nick, When your too lazy to set up that screen for daytime viewing or talking heads you could pick up an analog set like the 27" Sharp or Sony with 16:9 mode or even a budget 27" Sanyo at Walmart.

Nigel, What are you returning the XR50 and Pioneer 1014 in favor of and what speakers did you use in the comparison? BTW Does the 1014TX use digital amps (TI Equibit?) - I really don't know much about this receiver and what the buzz is all about it.

Note that the LSi mid-woofers take incredibly long to break in due to the stiffness. Very muddy bass and lacking the quickness and definition they have when broken in. They don't really improve significantly for 2-3 weeks with casual everyday listening and should be fully broken in by 6-8 weeks...

I wouldn't exactly call the DA7ES a Flagship. I believe it is very close to the DA4es. Note that both use the same firmware for further proof.
