First copy the files over to the new directory in Explorer. Then, from within iTunes, delete the tracks that you moved, then Add to Library from the new location.
Just curious why you'd consider converting lossy files to lossless. Granted, 320kbps is decent but you won't regain any of the lost information. It'd just be a waste of HD space.
I have the same setup: all tracks for playback are stored on NAS drives. Here's what you need to do to make sure the drive is mounted every time you turn your machine on: Mount the network drive so that it shows up on your desktop. Go to System Preferences. Click on Accounts. Click on...
If your Pro can see the printer via the AEx, then all other machines on your network should be able to see it as well (the AEx does not provide a closed connection). Try duplicating the printer settings from your Pro (Preferences>Print & Fax) on another machine after loading the appropriate...
Do you mean the printer is not plugged in to the AEx? If it is, the AEx acts as a wireless print server which can be accessed from any computer once the appropriate printer drivers have been loaded. As far as the HP Mediasmart server is concerned, I'm not familiar with it (I use plain NAS).
I don't think so. What you can do, though, is plug 10/100 devices in to it, and gigabit devices straight in to the base station. OTOH, just look for a gigabit switch as they're not that nuch more expensive.
Quick and not-so-dirty solution: 1. Plug the HP server in to your Extreme via ethernet. 2. Enable File Sharing on all computers whose hard drives you will want to access over the network (Preferences>Sharing and select File Sharing). 3. Now mount all 'network' drives that you need (HP...
An inexpensive ethernet hub or switch will do the job. Being that you're using an Extreme, there's no need to spend the extra money on a gigabit hub (1000Mbps), as it only supports transfer rates up to 100Mbps. An example of what you could use: Dynex® - 5-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch - DX-ESW5
Airfoil lets you 'broadcast' any audio from any application to any Mac, PC, AEx, or ATV. It allows any of your machines or devices to 'tune-in' to the audio playing on a particular (dedicated) machine. Not sure about the fidelity due to the encode/decode process, but it sounds like it might fit...
Well, I have four Macs at home, so I guess that makes me a home user. And yes, to quell your curiosity, I have tried to use it. I find it extremely intrusive in general, not to mention absolutely useless with a portable machine (ever close a MB/MBP during an unwarranted hard-scheduled hourly...
Whereas Time Machine is a great concept, it's sorely lacking in the implementation department. It's very intrusive and does not provide for turn-key recovery. Hourly backups are great if you're running mission critical applications, but to not let the user modify any settings whatsoever other...
Yes, Pages will import and export Word documents. I can't, unfortunately, use Pages for work as the formatting can get quite garbled when exporting (indents, bullets, tables, etc), and some fonts won't port properly. Same applies to Numbers and Excel, only worse. Even though I have iWork '08, I...
Regarding the defrag process, OSX defrags all files over 4MB in the background automatically. As a general rule of thumb, any disc drive that is about 75% full should be defrag'd beyond what is included in OSX due to read/write operations. Both iDefrag and Disc Warrior work well for this.
Apple Lossless, or ALAC, is Apples equivalent to FLAC i.e. they are both lossless compressed formats. AIFF and WAV are lossless uncompressed formats. MP3 and AAC are lossy compressed formats. Theoretically ALAC is identical to AIFF, as FLAC is to WAV, the only difference being the amount of disc...
I did a clean install on a core 2 duo black Macbook with 2 gig of ram. If anything, everything seems a little quicker. Have them check System Memory in the Activity Monitor (in the Utilities folder). As I type, with Firefox, Mail, iTunes, iPhoto, and Activity Monitor running with Spaces (in...
I stream internet radio and uncompressed ripped music to two separate systems in my house using Apple's Airport Express (one Airport Express per system). I use the Toslink output of the Airport Express to a digital input. My home wifi consists of 3 desktops and a laptop which are all networked...
Sony...Sony....Sony. I was at the show today and sat for the blu-ray and SACD demo. The system was a 9000ES receiver driving NINE Wilsons and a Wilson sub (virtual 9.1 from 5.1 sources). SACD playback was through a 9000ES player, and a large Sony projector at 1080p onto a 100" screen. The...
