My A-List pick today was "Land of Bad". This is a generic military action film. Lots of drones, rockets, machine guns, and a US elite squad battling militants. On that level, it satisfied my need to scratch an action itch.
My first A-List film this week was "Fast X", in IMAX. This film apparently isn't formatted for IMAX, as there were bars top and bottom the whole time. But I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. If you are a fan of this franchise, I don't see how you won't like it, more crazy utterly absurd...
The old girl finally conked out on me. Sad day, I was attached to this TV. Replacing it with one of those $560 75" 4K Smart TVs.
Oh well, her last day after 16+ years:
Short legs for "Wakanda", IMO. Similar to "Dr. Strange" I believe. Open at $175m, close at $430m (DOM).
Reminds me of 7-8 summers ago, when it seemed like lots of big SFX films would open at $90m and close at $200m.
Disney can't afford for Avatar 2 to follow that first pattern, I reckon.
That is very cool! I wish I remember mine. IIRC, circa 96 or so, I used to post on a DVD or Laserdisc usenet group, then migrated over here.
When DVD came out in early 1997, I think that sparked a big interest in home theater, a lot more people got interested. I think it took it out of being...
I too am second-tier pricing and my price is going up to that same point as well. Will likely be close to $25 with tax. Oh well, A-List is a huge boon to me so no complaints.
I just finished watching this Australian crime drama via Freevee, starring Thomas Jane, the old HBO "Hung" actor. I hope they make a season two, though season one seemed to tie up most of the loose ends. Recommended.
A bit late with my A-List report for April 2022:
Number of movies seen ....................... 13 (maxed out!)
Ticket Costs sans A-List ......................... $114
A-List Cost ................................................... $24
Net Savings...
My A-List selection today was "The Batman" in Dolby Cinema presentation.
I liked this movie. It was underground grimy, like the "Bane" Batman of 10 years ago. Pattison does a good job as does the Catwoman actress. This movie is nothing special, but I was entertained by it the entire 2 hours and...
This movie seemed too plastic to me. It seemed like half the film was shot in front of green screens and it was distracting. I did like looking at Gal Gadot and that other hot girl, Hammer's actual lover. Eye candy.
IIRC, BD unit disc sales have never to this day surpassed those of DVD.
Of course, 10+ years ago that meant something. Today, it's like having the highest income under $20,000 in your neighborhood, or something.
At the theaters I go to there are currently no vaccine or masking requirements, nor as far as I can tell, capacity requirements.
Since I'm vaccinated, that's fine with me, doesn't make me worried or anything. IIRC, the data says that even if I catch the virus, my odds of serious illness are...
I am against masking requirements and chafe when my governor imposes them (fear we will get another one any day now), but I also respect the law and comply when one is issued. So I agree that if the authorities, or a given business impose a mask mandate, then one must either comply and wear the...
My A-List Report for 2021
I saw 119 movies via A-List in 2021, at a savings of $889 off the regular ticketed price at the time of reservation, not including tax or any service fees and after deducting the $276 I paid A-List in monthly fees.
I really took advantage of premium formats. I saw 25...
Absolutely. It's just a question of what I think is more likely to impact my life. Regarding the virus, I looked at the CDC data a while back and my risk profile for a bad outcome was very small to begin with, and now I am vaxxed and boosted as well, so I don't fear the virus at all. It's not...
Anyone else moved up their plans to see movies this week over concerns that their local government might add virus restrictions?
I was planning on seeing the new Spiderman and Matrix films next weekend, on Christmas Day and the day after, but yesterday reserved tickets (I use AMC A-lIst) for...
3D does seem to be the rarest format at my local AMC. They haven't completely gotten off of it - I saw "Boss Baby 2" and "Black Widow" in 3D within the past month - but I am disheartened by the lack of offerings. Would have loved to have seen Jungle Cruise or Suicide Squad in that format. Love 3D!
I agree with this. I enjoyed SS - saw it in the Dolby format on Saturday, IMAX on Sunday - and felt the same way. Clever, funny movie, lots of cartoonish over the top violence and action. Preferred the IMAX presentation as it filled up the squarish screen, Dolby had bars left and right.
"I was...

I usually am a big fan of 3D, like it most of all, but in this case I found it to be on the muddy and dark side. There were some heavy-SFX sequences, like near the end, that looked great in 3D, but a lot of the human-interlude sequences were unimpressive. Overall, I preferred the Dolby and IMAX...
FWIW, I know that for many it's not cool to like the Roger Moore JB films, but I like several of them, with Moonraker among my favorites. :)
And I agree about Black Widow .... B+ movie. I liked it too.
My A-List this week is pretty simple - Black Widow (IMAX), Black Widow (Dolby) and today, Black Widow (3D), LOL.
I like this movie quite a bit. Entertaining start to finish, and while with many allusions to other MCU stuff, the basic plot wasn't at all convoluted.
