I agree... for all the talk about new processors and receivers, there's very little (or no) talk about how these formats sound compared to regular DD and DTS. HDMI switching and all these "new" features are hardly worth it if in the end the audio sounds virtually the same as before.

I think some newer receivers and pre-amps convert everything to HDMI. Therefore you could connect your VCR and Laserdisc or anything else you have to your receiver/pre-pro and have just the one output to the display/tv.

There is more involved in CD sound than just the DAC. For instance, I believe the clock is very important and will not be bypassed by using a digital output.

Just an update on my 2.12 snap/pop problems upon signal lock using the Panasonic RP-91. Nick at Anthem sent me a different 2.12 that had mute timings adjusted for players like mine. Worked like a charm. No more noise. Go go Anthem! ;)

Regarding the pop, it's not just a DVD player issue. My unit pops in the rear left channel when I switch channels on my digital cable box and I come across a 5.1 signal. I do have DD5.1+THX Ultra2 as my default, so it may be a THX issue as some have stated.

Lévesque, I'm running the AVM20 and PVA7. I get the Left Surround pop on Power-Down. There is definitely something going on with the AVM20 and the Left Rear channel.

I suppose I have enough "came in the box" cables lying around that I could try it out... but that would involve buying a DVD-A disc... which could be difficult. Maybe I'll take another look at Best Buy and see what's out.
