I've been considering 3 identical bookshelf speakers across the front lately too. Mainly because the cabinet that I ordered to house the speakers and components (Salamander Synergy 30s) isn't wide enough to hold most of the centers I was considering. My comment/question is this: I've read...
For some of us, sports are entertainment, so mixing the two is a good thing. I personally tuned in to a lot more MNF because Dennis was on there. Sure, he's not Bob Costas or Al Michaels, but he's a lot better than the aged out football stars and coaches that can't form a sentence. People like...
Dennis made a couple of comments the other night like "How many jobs can a guy lose in one year?" that made me think his show is getting canceled. Am I the last one to know?
The Toshiba news release said that their new LCOS model would be able to display 1080p, the highest resolution ever. How can they do that with no 1080p source? Are they going to have an internal scaler that line doubles a 1080i signal? Or will it just be for the possibility of future higher...
Does anyone know of a good comparison of all these technologies? I really like the small depth of the Plasma, but it's so expensive right now, so I was looking at a compromise with the LCD projection TV's like the Grand Wega. Then I read about the Toshiba coming late this year with the LCOS...
John, I don't think I'll be running different things simultaneously, but the Niles multi-zone receiver says you can send up to 4 different sources to 6 different zones simultaneously. I guess I'm asking if it's reasonable to do the multi-room audio with a home theater receiver and save some...
I have a nice room that I want to use for home theater and I also want multi room audio for the rest of the house. Right now I have a crappy old Technics receiver and a pair of Def Tech Pro Tower 400 main speakers. Should I get something like the Niles multi-zone control system that does...
I'm new to DVD so please forgive me. I was at the store the other day and saw 2 versions of Oceans 11. One said Widescreen Edition. Is one the Pan and scan version and the other is a 16:9 version? Because I didn't think they were even making many of the P&S versions anymore? Every time I rent...
Has anyone switched from digital cable to DTV or Dish? People tell me the satellite is much better. When I switched with my 36" direct view, I didn't notice a real difference. Any experience with a big RPTV out there?
I just got my Home Theater magazine today and it talks about the DVI/HDCP and DVI/HDMI stuff. It sounded like the HDMI would be a more comprehensive interface that would INCLUDE HDCP? So do I need to wait for sets with the HDMI or is it OK as long as you get one with DVI? And what about the...
What about the Pioneers? How do their regular models compare to the Elites? I don't think I can afford the Elite now. So how do their other sets compare?
I see your point theoretically, but in reality I would guess the uneven wear would be much less because it wouldn't be the static image causing the problem like it does now.
Brandon, Thanks for pointing that out. I actually noticed that in the store, but I wasn't sure if it was something that was correctable. That's a good point. For the money, I think I'll go with a CRT RPTV.
I thought this would be fairly straight forward, but the more research I do, the more confused I get. It seems like everyone here talks most about Toshiba, is there a reason for that? I just saw a Panasonic LCD RPTV at Best Buy that I liked a lot. I'm sure I can't afford DLP. I'd like to stay...
A sales guy told me today that Mitsubishi was banking on Firewire, while some others like JVC were banking on DVI/HDCP for future copy protection stuff. Does anyone have some insight into all this?
I heard of some new sets coming out that only scanned the part of the image being displayed, so you'd never have to worry about burn in. Does anyone know about these? I think I heard it was JVC.
Michael_V, I noticed the red push you mentioned too. After I read your post on the JVC from the other thread I went back to BB. They showed a video of Sheryl Crow wearing a leather jacket. On all the surrounding sets, she was wearing a TAN leather jacket, but on the JVC, it was a RED leather...
Steve, thanks for the info. I haven't been able to do a real side by side comparison because nobody carries all the major brands around here. NOW! carries Mits, Sony, and Pioneer while Best Buy carries Tosh, Panasonic, Samsung. I saw one 55" Mits that was in stretch with analog and it looked...
I saw this set at BB today. I liked the appearance of the silver, and more importantly my wife did. I thought the picture was good, but not noticeably better than the Tosh it sat next to. I'm not accustomed to calibrated pictures and probably wouldn't like them (gasp). My friend used to make...
Will this offer some future protection or not? Are there any other uses for it? Can you use the DVI input to treat your TV like a flat screen computer monitor?
Steve, Thanks for all the info. I'm not familiar with the HDCP/DVI stuff, but I'm guessing DVI is digital video input. Do any of the current sets have this, or do I have to wait until September for any of them to have it?
I would like to get a big screen (65") HDTV-ready TV soon, but I thought that I read or heard that the powers that be were considering putting some type of copy protection into the actual screens, rendering any older HDTV's useless? I'm not asking for a 10 year guarantee, maybe just 3 or 4...
