I'm very pleased about this because I never did buy the DVD. I haven't seen this film for about twenty years but I remember the first time I saw it, it made me realise that Mary Astor was one of the best actresses in movies.
I'll be watching that in the near future.
I watched Narrow Margin today, a marvellous movie with excellent lighting by George Diskant. Possibly Marie Windsor's finest hour in films.
I watched Criterion's 4K disc of The Last Picture Show yesterday. I don't rate it as highly as some people do but it's an interesting film that I'll watched every five years or so. One reason it's interesting is that it shows Texas as being cold!
I've never heard of this before. I'll do a bit of research!
I watched The Broadway Melody last night. It was good to hear two standards in their original setting. The film has an undistinguished cast and a two girls dancers and a guy story structure which was done much better in the later MGM...
I thought - and still think - my answer in Post 2 was realistic. I mentioned a title owned by Disney who seem to be in such financial difficulties that a palace revolution is probable which might instigate a fresh approach to finding additional revenue streams. I mentioned a semi-forgotten Clark...
Yesterday I watched A Lion Is In The Streets, a film I don't know well, having seen it previously only on television. The Warner Archive Blu-ray disc is excellent. The film is in the same genre as All The King's Men and A Face In The Crowd and stars James Cagney as a huckster who suddenly gets...
I've never bothered to see this version because the original works so well for me. Is this second version any good? I suspect Kim Basinger could do the female lead better than Ali McGraw whom I've always found a bit weak.
The big question I would ask myself is what if I delay buying this disc? If the answer is nothing much, I probably wouldn't pay $50.00 for any disc. If there was a risk the disc might sell out quickly, I'd certainly slap $50.00 on the table for a 4K disc of Ryan's Daughter, Raintree County...
I watched this yesterday. I agree the Blu-ray disc has good images but I don't agree that the film is underrated. The core premise is borrowed from Bad Day At Black Rock and the final suspense sequence comes from Alfred Hitchcock, both Sabotage and North By Northwest. The narrative line...
