Great review, Josh, and a nicely balanced perspective on the merits of this show. I'm absolutely loving my set. WAC really hit it out of the park here in the audio/video quality department.
34. Rooster Cogburn (1975)
Didn't want to let the challenge end without including at least one entry from the most famous movie cowboy of all: big "Duke" Wayne, one of my favorite actors. I decided to watch this 1975 sequel to True Grit, mainly because it's the only post-1948 western in Wayne's...
33. Seven Men from Now (1956)
Former sheriff Ben Stride (Randolph Scott) is on the trail of the men who carried out a Wells Fargo robbery in Silver Springs, stealing $20,000 and killing Stride's wife in the process. Stride, who blames himself for his wife's death, later comes to the aid of John...
32. Day of the Outlaw (1959)
Rancher Blaise Starrett (Robert Ryan) is a hard man, one of those who carved out a life in the rough and dangerous Montana Territory, helping make the town of Bitters safe, before settlers and homesteaders started rolling in. Starrett is burned up by hatred for the...
Like you, Gavin, I was a little surprised that no one had reacted to the premiere of this movie yet, so thanks for getting the ball rolling.
I enjoyed this for what it was, a piece of disposable action fare given a quality boost from smooth direction by Doug Liman. I liked the sun-kissed Key...
Very cool that you got to meet Clint Walker and have him sign your The Night of the Grizzly Blu, Doug! He's an actor I always have a lot of time for. I also enjoy The Night of the Grizzly, too, despite it's episodic nature. Not perfect, as you say, but a fun watch.
Colt .45
Devoured the first two discs' worth of episodes on Warner Archive's beautiful new Complete Series Blu-Ray set. For more detailed thoughts on the series as a whole so far (basically, I think it's damn good), please see my post in the dedicated Colt .45 thread here. I don't currently have...
Happy 78th Birthday, Barbara Rhoades!
Happy birthday to statuesque, 5'10" actress Barbara Rhoades, who brightened up several films and many TV episodes from the late '60s through the early '90s. Obviously her voluptuous figure and saucy demeanor caused her to be frequently cast in sexpot...
Took advantage of MovieZyng's current Warner Archive sale to grab some titles I've had my eye on for a while now:
Looney Tunes Collector's Choice Volume 2
Flying Leathernecks
Captains of the Clouds
Annie Get Your Gun
Doctor X
King Solomon's Mines
Escape from Fort Bravo
A Night at the Opera
The...
31. The Valley of Gwangi (1969)
Cowboys vs. dinosaurs, with great Ray Harryhausen effects and another rousing western score by Jerome Moross - what's not to like? Apparently based on an original idea from famed King Kong special effects wiz Willis O'Brien, and brought to life by Harryhausen and...
