My question is with regards to the final sequence, which has always looked dull and dark and poorly-colored. I have read that this was an intentional modification by Scorcese, apparently after Columbia insisted on it in order to minimize the gore. I have also read that there is no "uncensored"...
I'm not sure that it would have been prudent for Peter Jackson to include much of the anti-Yoko rhetoric that I have read/been told happened, since she was one of the producers of the mini-series. There are aspects of her that I enjoy, but her shrieking during the rehearsals is not one of them.
Was that Korvette's in Elmsford, NY, by any chance? If so, I bought tons of (standard) 8mm Castle Films, Columbia Films and Ken Films from them, and from nearby Masters Discount. The 200' B&W editions cost exactly $4.17 each. Can't remember what I had for dinner last night, however.
The original SILENT STAR is a fine movie. The 19 minutes excised for U.S. release makes it look sloppy, and the dubbing is simply awful. The original 95-minute film is/was available on DVD, but it's hopelessly soft. How I do so hope this coming release will include both versions or, if only one...
Very happy about this news, with one caveat: I was hoping that a new 4K restoration of THE WILD BUNCH would be released at around the same time as this.
