Home Theater Forum http://www.hometheaterforum.com Subject: Live Chat with Warner Home Video Date: Monday, September 15, 2008 I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone at Warner Brothers to our chat. Tonight we are talking with the fine folks involved with television and animation. Good evening to you We are going to jump into questions right away so we can fit as many of your questions in tonight as possible. I have a question: How were the sales for "Perfect Strangers"? We can't comment on specifics, but sales meet our expectations Hello Warner! I'm a chat regular! First off, I'd like to ask one of the more obvious questions - what is going on with some of your so-called "abandoned series" - meaning series with only 1 season released thus far? Shows include Murphy Brown, Growing Pains, The Drew Carey Show, Whose Line?, etc. Any plans for those? Thankyou! We're continuing to evaluate many of those shows, but can't comment on any specific plans at this time. Hello and thank you. Any plans for The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.? We're looking forward to see how "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." does when it comes out in October, and we'll evaluate from there. Thanks for the great Looney Tunes and Popeye cartoon sets for the last few years. Also, it was great to finally see the arrivial of Freakazoid! on DVD. Looking forward to future releases, as well as the cartoons. As for my question... any plans for LT/Popeye quality MGM cartoon sets? The Droopy and T&J sets were not quite up to standards, but I'd love to see some. Patrick, we've appreciated your support for years. Remastered MGM cartoon sets are on the horizon, though no date is set yet. be patient, it will be worth the wait. There are more LT planned ahead. We know the fan demand is there. Hello and thanks for the opportunity. With the last volume of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection series being released next month, will you consider in 2009 to release LT DVD sets under the main WHV umbrella instead of the Family department in order to get rid of the Adult Collector Disclaimer that many fans think is hindering the release of certain cartoons and have more freedom to release such controversialshorts? Regardless of what division the DVDs came from, the disclaimer would still be there. Curious about Wait Till Your Father Gets Home Season 2? It features lots of guest star voices can we expect that in 2009? Would Love to SEE Watership DOWN on BLU-RAY!Thank You Again, we're constantly evaluating second seasons of TV properties ... and Watership Down is part of the theatrical catalogue and not part of this conversation tonight. Thanks so much for having this chat first of all...In regards to Dallas, Is there a date for the next season and will the TV-Movies be released as extras on the season sets or will they be released after the show is completed..i.e. The Early Years, JR Returns and War of The Ewings ??THANK YOU Dallas - Season 10 is scheduled for early 2009 ... and stay tuned for specifics on that release. WE do have plans to release the telefilms at some point TBD. Is there any plans for Pac Man, The Plastic Man Comedy Adventure Hour, Paw Paws, or Yogi Bear's First Christmas getting a DVD release? We are looking at all of these, and hope to have news for you in 2009. First, an obligatory thanks to WHV for answering our questions! Moving on... Any chance one of the future Tiny Toon Adventure releases will include the movie (How I Spent My Vacation) or specials (Spring Break & Night Ghoulery) as bonus features? As a TTA fan, I'd love to get them on DVD one way or another in addition to the series itself. We're working on the complete seasons at this point, and we'll evaluate those specials later. Keep buying those season sets and more good things will come. Will the new future non-Golden Looney Tunes collections be planned for Blu-ray (as we assume that's the point of the new sets)? And will we see more vintage TV (film source) on Blu sets, or do studios still imagine a phobia of 4:3? We're continuing to find ways to provide LT content on DVD and Blu-ray. In the meantime, you can see select LT shorts remastered in full high-def 1080p on some theatrical catalog releases like The Adventures of Robin Hood. Any plans for the 1988 Ruby Spears Superman cartoon to be released on DVD? We're taking a hard look at the fine works of Joe Ruby and Ken Spears and we hope to have news in the first half of 2009. Brimstone is now celebrating It2019s 10th anniversary and is currently 37 for unreleased shows on tvshowsondvd. What are the plans for it? Despite the wonderful work of Peter Horton and John Glover, there are no plans at this time. P.S. We'll take another at Brimstone ... the devil will make us do it. thanks for your input and support Thanks for your time, Warner. Is there any word on further releases of The Waltons? Early 2009 for the next season of The Waltons. Look for specifics in the next few weeks. First off, as a big fan of the Silver Age WB cartoons, I want to say thanks very much for putting Tiny Toons, Freakazoid!, and The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries on DVD. Now I'm anxious to know, do you have any plans to release DVDs of Histeria!, Road Rovers, Taz-Mania, and Detention? I and many others (such as the over 850 people who have signed a petition for Histeria!) would love to see those shows be released as well. At this point, we're focused on releasing content from Freakzoid and Tiny Toons, and based on their success, we will consider these additional series. I buy DVDs from your company almost every other week, so thank you for making my life so great. With that said...Any plans to release Family Matters, the final Animaniacs volume, or Dexter's Lab? Also, any news to report on any upcoming Hanna-Barbera titles? Thank You! Family Matters is a title that has always been on our list, but related costs have prevented it thus far and we're working to get around those issues, if possible. MORE TO COME. There are more plans at this time for Animaniacs 4. Dexter's Lab ... we're working closely with Cartoon Network to evaluate the release. Thanks for joing us tonight... will we see the original MAVERICK series (1957-62) on DVD soon? One of WB TV's crown jewels, and the Mel Gibson remake made the studio a boatload of money. Mav isnot currently scheduled. Are there any plans to release the 1968 Filmation Batman cartoons, and When is the next volume of Superfriends cartoons coming out? Get down to local retailer and buy your DC Filmation DVD right this second now! The DC Filmation streeted Augusty 12. Superfriends will have a new release in early 2009. Warner has seen success releasing Babylon 5 on DVD. Another show from that same PTEN era was Time Trax, which lasted two seasons. Any chance this is being looked into for DVD release? It has a large fan base and is fondly remembered. No plans at this time for Time Trax By the by, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. -- the complete series -- will street on October 21 along with 10 hours of special features all in one collector package -- and it's an attache case! It was recently announced that the "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" Season One was being released through the HSN. Is WHV apart of this release? If so . . . What can we expect as far as extra features and future releases? Did Rosie have a large role in the release? Will it be exlusively sold through HSN? WHV is not part of that release. FYI, Look for all the remastered deluxe editions of the Peanuts Holiday titles and "you're not elected, charlie brown" this fall. Pumpkin is already out, Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming out 10/7 and the holiday gift set with all three is out 9/23. Any chance of the Cathy Lee Ctosby version of Wonder Woman to geta DVD release? we don't have plans at this time but there's always a chance! Are there any plans to release classical animation in Hi-def? If so, can the masters that were made for current DVDs (like the LT Golden Collection) be used for a Hi-def release, or will it be necessary to do new transfers and/or restorations? Thank You. We're taking a hard look at bringing the classic animation content to blu ray. The need to transfer and clean up will depend on the series and shorts. Have you bought Justice League S1 on blu-ray yet? Before we go to the next round of Yos, let me sneak in a question.....You announced in a prior chat that the 70s TV movie "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" would be considered for release shortly. We know a theatrical movie remake is forthcoming. Has that changed your plans to release this TV movie in the near future? We're waiting for confirmation on the theatrical film before announcing our plans. Yes, Does WHV have any plans with regards to the B&W Television shows of the 1950's-1960s in it's library? we recognize the interest in the great collection of 50's and 60's series that we have in our library. we are still determining the best way to proceed with these. Don't forget...Man from U.N.C.L.E.: the complete series is coming out 10/21. Thanks for chatting with us tonight! Are you currently working on (or have plans for) Blu-ray releases of the Bruce Timm Batman series? Thanks again! we are strongly looking at it. The complete collection is coming out this holiday season is SD. I would like to know if you will be releasing the remaining 3 seasons to 'Welcome Back, Kotter', and if so, when to expect them out" - signed, Epstein's mother We don't have future seasons of Welcome BAck Kotter planned at this time. You have also done a wonderful job to date with the PEANUTS/SNOOPY (Still holding out for the last two feature titles from the PEANUTS Collection on the way, BON VOYAGE AND DON'T COME BACK, CHARLIE BROWN and RACE FOR YOUR LIFE, CHARLIE BROWN) titles that you have released. I am also very excited about the WONDER WOMAN animated film in 2009! 2009 is the 30th anniversary of KNOTS LANDING. I know that you realize that the fanbase for this show is still waiting to see the second season and the arrival of Donna Mills as ABBY to the cast? Is this show on hold till you finish DALLAS? Sales were less than anticipated, unfortunately. However, I have great news for all of you fans after the long wait. LOOK FOR KNOTS LANDING SEASON 2 IN 2009. We are excited to give the series another chance. Future seasons are in your hands. Thanks in advance for your support WIll we see the rest of the Filmationn SUperman, 1968 Batman and the All NEw SUperFriends Hour come to DVD? Thanks for the DC release currently. we JUST released the filmmation years and we'll evaluate future DC releases in due time. Warner, let me step in one sec...Who do we have to push to get the original Batman TV series out? It is the #1 requested TV show for release and neither Fox nor WB or DC can agree on release terms. Do you have any influence over its release? We'd like to see it, too ... BAM! However, the issue exists apart from WHV. BIFF! Warner Home Video has no rights to the series. G'evening, WHV! This may not be under your domain, so my apologizes, but any chance of getting Wonder Woman S2/S3 and Justice League Unlimited up on iTunes for purchase? Thanks! You're right -- it's not our domain. But we'll be happy to pass along that request to the appropriate folks. Do you plan to continue the Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends season sets anytime soon? And earlier you said "There are more plans at this time for Animaniacs Volume 4." Please tell me "more plans" is not a typo and you're really putting it out.... we'll forward your interest in Foster's to Cartoon Network. And to clarify, there is no current plan for Animaniacs 4. Thank you guys for the opportunity to talk with you. At this time, are there any plans for releasing The New Adventures of Old Christine Season 3 (and 4 when it finishes airing)? Would you wait until Season 4 finishes airing to release the two seasons together due to the short length of Season 3? for starters, please look for Season 2 at a retail store near you on October 21. We're still strategizing plans for Season 3 & 4 for the future. Why have we not seen Animaniacs v4 yet? I would like a documentary on the Animania get-together as an extra on it. I also want Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain, as well as sets of Dexter2019s Lab, Cow & Chicken, What-A-Cartoon, Cartoon Network2019s Big Pick and Saturday Pants. Also does the Gizmo & The Gremlins pilot exist? We've answered the Animaniacs already ... there are no plans at this time. And we're working closely wtih Cartoon Network to evaluate release timing on their amazing library. Hello Warner! I'm so excited to be apart of this chat! I was very excited when you released Tiny Toons and Freakazoid! But i must ask, what exactly did happen with Animaniacs Volume 4? And will there be future Ed, Edd n' Eddy sets as well? Again, Animaniacs isn't planned at this time, and future releases are being evaluated. Great studio and great product for your consumers, Warners! Just wanted to check on the status of any possible DVD releases of Sealab 2020 and live-action Shazam. Thanks. No plans for either show at this time ... but you had to love Ross Martin doing a voice for a cartoon, eh? Any plans for live-action Superboy (1988-1992)? The first season was released back in June 2006. Is rumored litigation to blame or did season 1 not sell as expected? Thanks again for doing these chats! Superboy sales didn't meet expectations, thus we don't expect to release Season 2. Sorry. Thank you (or BBC Warner) for R1 Spaced. Definitely worth the wait. Any plans to make bonus disc for Batman: TAS Complete Series available to fans who've already bought the previous four sets (for example, proof of purchase mail-in)? No. The bonus disc has been specially created for this collector's set. actually, i had a question about the Moonlight DVDs. Originally, the release of Season 1 was set for September, then pushed back to 2009 (after the Holidays, when many fans had planned to purchase it) and now the release date for Region 2 is set for November, but there is no news for a Region 1 release. Why are is are the DVDs being released in Europe first, and when can we expect them in the US? for fans of MOONLIGHT...stay tuned for GOOD news you can really sink your teeth into in the next month... There was never a release set for September, each territory sets release dates that make the most sense for them. They are on a sightly more accelerated schedule. Hey, do you have a date for Third Watch season 2 yet? we were pleased with sales on Season 1, however, music costs for season 2 are extraordinarily high. We're trying to find a solution for us to release season 2 in the future but there is not a specific date at this time. Being a collector of WWII animation, I would just like a confirmation that both the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 6 and The third Popeye Fleischer set will contain the controversial cartoons uncensored. our hope is to live up to the standards we have set in the past. (drum roll) I would now like to call upon...from TVShowsOnDVD.com.....your SOURCE for TV on DVD NEWS....Mr. David Lambert... Thanks for coming tonight! I hoped others would ask about these already, but since no one has, there are a few titles that TSoD readers will be upset about, if not brought up here! Any word on Scarecrow & Mrs. King, thirtySomething, Men in Trees, more Night Court or a Blu version of Friends? For myself, what about Logan's Run? :) Thanks Sorry David. That's too many... just kidding... We don't have rights to Thirtysomething. No plans currently on Scarecrow, Men in Trees but we recognize there is interest. We'll revisit Logan's Run in the event the theatrical film happens. Good news for you fans of Night Court though. Look for the long awaited Season 2 DVD coming next year! We're continuing to develop our Blu Ray plans and you'll see many more shows on Blu Ray in the future. That may include Friends - some day - but I can't tell you when. :) Last year I asked if Captain Planet was a hero or a zero on DVD... You said "zero". However on a recent WHV survey there was an option to see CP come to DVD. Are you reconsidering? If not then perhaps maybe even doing what Nick/Paramount are with the Amazon.com "Burn-on-Demand" titles? We're working with Cartoon Network to reexplore. We'll keep you posted. First off, I'm happy you have a Chowder DVD now. That is a personal favourite Cartoon Network show of mine. I was wondering though, do you have any plans for The Snorks or Whatever Happened to Robot Jones? Thanks. Again, we're working with Cartoon Network to evaluate their fantastic library. Stay tuned. I just wanted to know if Eight Is Enough will be released on DVD ? If not is it possible for you to offer the episodes for sale as digital downloads on itunes like you did with the Christmas episodes? IT IS MY all time favorite show thanks eight is enough to fill our lives with love...no plans for the DVD at this time. We'll pass the request to our digital distribution folks. Thanks so much for the great animation releases the past few years. With the success of Batman: The Animated Series on DVD, Might we expect a special edition release of MASK OF THE PHANTASM in the future, or any of the other animated Batman features/specials? In previous chats it has been said that MOTP is under evaluation. Fans have also been hoping for the DTV Mystery of the Batwoman in its original widescreen. Thank youfrom a huge Bat-Nerd (obviously)! Thank you Batnerd. We have a very successful special edition business and we'll gladly consider these releases. In the meantime, Superman Doomsday 2 Disc SE and Blu-ray are coming this holiday season. With Dallas and Knots Landing on dvd, are there any plans for Falcon Crest? It's my favorite. We need Angela Channing on DVD!! Not at this time but we're interested in how Knots Landing sells as an indication of potential support for Falcon Crest. Well Scarecrow and Mrs. King and Eight is Enough and Falcon Crest (think dallas not knots here to guage interest) were asked so that leaves me with one other show i am waiting for, How about Spenser: For Hire?. Please show the love for the 70's and 80's programming! Remember Scarecrow and Mrs King is one of the most requested shows. Thankyou Much! We don't have plans for Spencer for Hire at this time. Thanks Warners. I am a big fan of your product, particular your fine Animation DVD. Earlier on in the chat, you mentioned DVD's of the MGM cartoons as "being on the horizon". Would these include Tex Avery's cartoons of the 1940's and 50's? we're looking at everything. I was really wondering about hanna barbera releasesas as i am a huge fan of those cartoons including the finishing of richie rich and scooby doo as well as Huckleberry Hound? we are continuing to look at sales of Richie Rich/Scooby Doo and Huckleberry Hound and hope to release future seasons. I would like to know if there are any plans for Reba season 5 and 6 on dvd and any plans for living with fran, run of the house and more seasons of what i like about you. thank you. Reba is not a WHV title, no plans for the others. Greetings WHV, thanks for being here. I really enjoy Hanna Barbara shows Do you ever plan on releasing " The Biskitts" cult classsic. A side note will you please, please stop hiring outside companies to put non Rankin Bass extras on those classics, it ruins them! We need strictly Rankin Bass material on those to be called deluxe versions! there are no plans to release "The Biskitts" at this time. Thanks for your note on Rankin Bass, we'll keep it in mind. Any plans to finish The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air yes, we're trying to make it work so we can release the last two seasons of this show. No date has been set...stay tuned. Also...don't forget...Pushing Daisies SD and BD and Chuck SD come out TOMORROW! RUN do not walk to your local retailer and buy these awesome shows!!! Also look for Chuck S1 and Supernatural S3 on Blu Ray on Nov. 11th What's going on with Murphy Brown S2? It's been 5+ years since seasons 1 - I'd think that you've accumulated your sales goal for the set in that time. And, to end, any plans for The Drew Carey Show S2 or Whose Line is it Anyway? S2? Thankyou - I had a great night! We haven't hit our sales goal yet for Murphy Brown unfortunately...we don't have plans for Season 2 at this time for Murphy Brown or Drew Carey. We are putting together another release for Whose Line. Look for it in 2009. ok, hi whv do you have any plan for any b&w cartoons to release from your library ? can you be more specific? done more of your cartoons like Bosko, and others that you aquires whith years (ex: mutt & jeff, felix the cat...) look for some of the other b&w cartoons on LT Golden Vol 6. It's great to see you back tonight. Warner, any plans for Valerie/Valerie's Family/The Hogan Family? I would love to see this childhood favorite finally brought to DVD, and to see it again in its original, uncut broadcast form. Thanks. no plans at this time but we'll continue to evaluate it. what is the reason for not releasing eight is enough? it seems like many people want it out on dvd, especially the first 3 seasons We'll continue to evaluate it but for any show it's a combination of sales forecast and fixed cost hurdles. Thanks for your interest. It is duly noted. Could you tell us what sort of extras are planned to be included on the US release of the Moonlight DVD? We can't comment at this time but look for our announce in a few weeks. With the WB release of the Peanuts Holiday special, are there any plans to release "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show"? for now we're focusing on our seasonal titles and collector focused titles. We will continue to evaluate all the Peanuts library. please release johnny bravo on dvd. Jonny, we've received and replied to your countless emails. Thanks for your interest. We definitely know how you feel! In Looney Tunes: Spotlight Collection Vol. 3 you released two of the Looney Tunes feature films. Are there any plans to release other features such as "The Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie" or "Daffy Duck's Fantastic Island"? (Spotlight or in some other capacity?) Also, will we see any of the "Censored 11" shorts released in the near future? We're very open to releasing full length classic movies. We encourage you to check out Yogi Bear and Flintstones streeting this holiday season. We continue to have discussions about Censored 11 and will keep you posted. Who has the rigths to put the 1966 Batman Tv Series on DVD? Fox. Thanks WHV for the great news on Knots Landing Season 2!!! I am a little disappointed that your not releasing season 2 of The Drew Carey Show, please reevalutate this great show! Any plans to release season sets of the t.v comedy series Alice starring Linda Lavin. Thanks again for rethinking Knots Landing, I have been waiting for this release for a LOOOONG TIME!!!! Have a great night!! We don't have specific plans for ALICE but we'll continue to look at it. Thanks for your support on Knots. Thanks for taking the time to chat with us tonight. Was curious about plans for season sets for early seasons of Super Friends or a Complete Series set for Superman: The Animated Series? We're looking at both. Please buy Batman Animated Series: The complete collection this holiday season!!! Speaking of DC Superheroes, will we be seeing the late 60's Batman Filamtion cartoons with Olan Soule and Casey Kasem's voices? Also, any more New Adventures of Superman sets? Rest assured our goal is to release the entire dc comics library at some point. ( Did we really go a whole chat with no Everwood?:D ) Last summer you put out some fantastic sets for SPACE GHOST and BIRDMAN... will we see the same for HERCULOIDS and the MIGHTY MIGHTOR ? Almost! no plans at this time. We'll keep you posted. a whole chat without an everwood question...we assumed you guys are just losing interest. We're kidding. Don't start a letter writing campaign to the publicists... Any news of The Zeta Project getting released? And dare I ask... Static Shock? Let's be real here guys. That single volume release from way back was not exactly the greatest sale indicator ;) Box sets are where it's at. Look for Zeta project in 2009. Yo WHV! I've enjoyed the chat tonight. Thanks. Q: Mama's Family (even if they are edits) can we get the next season on DVD please? Don't have a season 2 date set for Mama's Family but its on our list to continue to evaluate. And in order to go out of this chat with a BANG... We want to announce that the 2nd season of E E E E EVERWOOD is on its way in 2009. WOW! And to think nobody had to force that out of you. What an exclusive! On behalf of Parker, myself and the membership we so much appreciate your support of HTF and for being here tonight.
