Harman Kardon SB16 Sound Bar Combo           Harman Kardon, fondly known as HK, has a long history of innovation across the entire audio video line and is a key cog of the illustrious HARMAN company, alongside incredible brands like Revel, Lexicon and Mark Levinson.  We used Harman Kardon AVR's in the HD DVD truck that went all over the United States during the format war.   HK has just announced a new sound bar system, the SB16.  The main goal of a sound bar system is to improve the anemic audio performance that comes from today's HDTV's.  While... read more

This article is a short, non-technical explanation of impedance, and its significance in video and other circuitry, for those who have always scratched their heads at this one.   Every signal input, and every output, has an impedance--this "impedance" represents the relationship between voltage and current which a device is capable of accepting or... read more

Erik Aadahl Supervising Sound Editor For Megamind On Designing A Mix Using Dolby Surround

I recently was invited by Dolby to attend a screening and discussion with Erik Aadahl Sound Designer on films like I, Robot, Transformers, Fantastic Four.  He has also been the Supervising Sound Editor for films like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Monsters vs. Aliens and most recently Megamind.    Prior to the discussion I erroneously assumed that just about every possible sound had been already captured and all sound designers did was pull up track 58, mix in a little of track 72 and wallah, they now had the angry robot from scene 22.  Imagine my... read more
