    Pom Poko Blu-ray Review
Jan 28 2015  There were more than a few raised eyebrows when 2014 Oscar nominations for feature animation didn’t include The LEGO Movie or The Book of Life. Instead, one of the available slots was filled by The Tale of Princess Kaguya co-directed by Isao Takahata. The Japanese director is no stranger to animation fans, however, as he’s been a part of Studio Ghibli for quite some time. His 1994 fantasy Pom Poko (the title shortened for stateside release) brings forth the strong comic and dramatic sides of the animator’s art with an environmental message woven through the narrative that certainly seems to come from the heart. Disney’s latest Studio Ghibli release offers the film in its original Japanese as well as with an English-language cast.

Definitive Technology Mythos ST-L SuperTower Review
Dec 31 2014  As I was walking the halls of CEDIA Expo 2013, I chanced upon Definitive Technology’s booth, where they had a pretty long line of folks waiting to hear their new flagship loudspeaker. At the time I had no idea that this was the Mythos ST-L, and had no interest in hearing it because I’d generally been rather unawed by Definitive Technology products in the past. It wasn’t that Definitive Tech speakers I had heard in the past sounded bad, but rather that they either weren’t set up properly or the particular model wasn’t well suited to my listening tastes.

Blade Runner: 30th Anniversary Celebration Soundtrack CD Review
Jun 15 2013  The motley iterations of the music from Ridley Scott’s science-fiction masterpiece by Greek composer Vangelis are as many as the versions of the film itself. Besides the approved release by Vangelis himself in 1994, there have been quite comprehensive bootleg versions, a 3-disc release timed to coincide with the release of the 5 versions of the film on the competing (at the time) high definition formats (Blu-ray and HD-DVD), and of course the original disputed LP. Now we have a 30th anniversary celebration release which is perhaps the most audacious of all the versions – certainly the most difficult to produce.
