Why Create An Article?
Wiki articles can be thought of as collaborative works which pull together the wisdom of the community. Each Article is fully editable by any registered member. They are best used for:
- "How to" guides
- Introductory articles
- Lists or "Top 10" guides
When considering whether to write a Article or a forum post, think about whether your post is a list, a guide, or a factual introduction. If it is, you will most likely want to write a Wiki article. If your content is a question, an opinion, or a piece of news, you will most likely want to write a forum post.
What Makes A Good Article?
Your Article title should be:
- Concise but descriptive
- An accurate reflection of the content in the article; for example, a Article titled "How To Set Up Surround Sound Speakers" should give the reader tips on how to generally set up surround sound speakers, rather than a first person account of your trials and errors with setting up your Logitech G51 Surround Sound Speaker System. First person accounts belong in the forums. But also feel free to add tips about specific HT equipment or movies to the Product Wiki at the bottom of each product page.
Good Article content:
- Is "How to" articles, introductory articles, buying guides, and other factually based or "common knowledge" subjects rather than subjective articles, like first-person accounts
- Is written in a neutral/third-person point of view
- Uses headers to separate sections of the article
- Uses bullet points and lists to make reading and contributions easier for other Home Theater Forum members
- Includes relevant images
Your Article should NOT:
- Read like a forum thread. That’s what the forums are for! If you would like to start a Article to get some of your questions answered, feel free to start an Article and subdivide the article with headers to let people know how the article should be structured. Of course, you're also welcome to suggest an Article idea in the forums.
Create A New Article
- Navigate to the Wiki home. On the page you will see a few buttons to get you started creating your Wiki. Click either the "Create A Wiki" button at the top right or the "Create A New Wiki" button in the middle of the page.
-
A popover will open for you to title your Article. Enter a title using letters, numbers, and spaces. Your title should be descriptive but concise, such as How To Buy A Home Theater Projector or Introduction To Blu-ray Technology.

- When you are satisfied with your Article name, click save.
- A blank Article with your title will be available for you to edit. Keep in mind, until you click save on this page, your article will not be created. In the body of the Article, feel free to add images or add YouTube videos. You can edit your post similarly to a Word document, with bold, underlined, or italicized text, embedded links, bullet points, and tables.
- When you are finished, scroll to the bottom of the Article and hit "Save." Your Article will not be created until you click "Save."
Edit An Existing Article
The goal of Articles is to pull together the collaborative knowledge of the community. Feel free to contribute your knowledge to an existing Article.
- Navigate to the Article you would like to edit.
- At the top of the Article, you will see a few buttons. The second button from the left is the "Edit" button. Click this to open the Article editor.
- Edit the body of the Article.
- At the bottom of the Article, there is a blank field. Feel free to enter a brief description of your changes to let others know of your specific contribution.
- Click "Save" when you are finished editing. Until you click "Save," your changes will not be made.
Discuss The Editorial Contents Of The Article
Because the Articles are collaboratively editable, sometimes you will want to talk to the other contributors. The Article Talk forums are designed to hold conversations that are specifically related to the editorial contents of the Article, like how to structure it or what content belongs there. If you are interested in discussing the TOPIC of the Article, visit the main forums.
- Navigate to the Article.
- On the top left, you will see the "Discuss" button.
- Click here to go to the Article Talk forum.
- Post in the forums in the same way you would in the main forums.
Revert An Article To A Previous Version
Occasionally another user may edit an Article in a way you disagree with. At any time, you can revert the Article back to a previous version.
- Navigate to the Article you would like to revert.
- Click the "History" button to view the list of Article edits.
- Find the version of the Article you want to roll back to. Click the "Revert" button above the version you prefer.

Report An Article
Occasionally, you may find an Article that violates the community posting guidelines. Feel free to report an Article to site administrators at any time.

- At the top of the article, you will see the "Report to Admin" button. Click that and site administrators will review the content.
